🧬 Pathophysiology of #EBV

EBV infects B cells in the oropharynx ➡️ CD8+ T cells & NK cells mount cellular immune response to control infected B-cell proliferation ➕ humoral immunity produces EBV antibodies➡️ lifelong/persistent infection

Differential diagnosis of skin lesions resulting from Mpox include
syphilis
herpes zoster
molluscum contagiosum
scabies
lymphogranuloma venereum

Caused by Orthopoxvirus
Has two major clades:
1️⃣ Congo Basin (Clade I)
2️⃣West African (Clade II)

Transmission:
Person-to-person via prolonged close contact

🚨 In all sexually active patients suspected with Mpox, it is recommended to evaluate for HIV and other STIs

Groups at risk of #Mpox include
🟠Immunocompromised

🟠Pregnant / breastfeeding women

A WHO-supported mobile lab now delivers #Ebola test results in about an hour, cutting delays and bringing lifesaving diagnostics closer to more than 94,000 people.

Before this, samples had to travel 55 km to Bunia on poor roads, with confirmation of a suspected case sometimes taking nearly five hours.

The project is part of an initiative by governments of the #DRC and Uganda to strengthen cross-border health coordination and control the outbreak.

This enveloped RNA virus infects cells like mononuclear phagocytes, hepatocytes and endothelial cell ➡️ widespread tissue injury and organ dysfunction

How can hypertension cause OSA?

🟡Unmanaged blood pressure ➡️ fluid buildup/swelling leading to throat swelling especially at night when lying flat➡️ narrow airway➡️ OSA

📌 however, Not all patients with #OSA have #Hypertension and vice versa.

🟡How does OSA cause Hypertension?

Partial or complete collapse of upper airway ➡️ reduced oxygen levels and ↗️ sympathetic activity ➡️ Endothelial and neurotransmitter dysfunction ➡️ hypertension

🟠Lactase production declines after weaning, leaving most adults worldwide with some degree of lactose malabsorption➡️a normal consequence of reduced lactase production

📌Those who continue digesting milk lactose in adulthood have “lactase persistence.” 🥛
