I had an excellent first meeting with la Presidenta @claudiashein today in Mexico City. We discussed our shared commitment to girls’ rights, including the right to a full, safe, quality education. We also spoke about the situation in Afghanistan, where girls are banned from school past grade 6 and women are being systematically erased from public life under the Taliban’s gender apartheid regime.

Mexico is showing leadership at the UN by championing the effort to recognise gender apartheid as a crime against humanity under international law. I thanked the President for her solidarity and look forward to working with her government to invest in a world where all girls can live and learn freely. ¡Muchas gracías, señora Presidenta!
