Like 6 years ago I got hit by a car while cycling. My bike was wrecked and I had to take a week off work because my leg was fucked. The police found the guy and when he refused to pay for the bike they just closed the report and said I should be more careful.

My bike was stolen in ~2015. The police response was literally "sure we can take a report if you feel like wasting everyone's time." Instead, my bike was recovered by my local bike shop owner who recognized it, pushed the thief off it, then repaired the damage. Community > cops.
