The outcome of this battle eventually led to a stronger unification of Scotland in 1266 when Alexander III and King Magnus of Norway agreed to the Treaty of Perth - where Norway ceded all of its claims over the islands to the west - other than Orkney and Shetland.
On this day in 1263, the Battle of Largs took place - where the Scottish forces were commanded by Alexander of Dundonald or Alexander Stewart - the 4th hereditary High Steward of Scotland (1246-1281)- from Dundonald.
