Maybe what's unusual is a society that inflicts children with its own warped perceptions of what it means to be intelligent. It isn't a destiny. It's just a skill.

@FortIronhold @catehall Glad you feel this diagnosis helped you. However I'm against 'gifted' kids in general being pathologised by default. It's an outrageous imposition to slap a 'smart' label on a kid that makes him a bully's target then offer him a 'damaged' label to compensate for the consequences.

@catehall If you weren't 'gifted', no one would conclude that the reason you aren't doing something is you've been overpraised, rather than lack of interest. Look at the responses to your post. Would they be so insulting about a non-'gifted' kid? No. And it's everyone. That IS exhausting.

@catehall All children tend to receive tons of praise these days, so I don't see how being classified as 'gifted' makes a difference. Where it does make a difference is that everyone treats you differently from other kids, and that can indeed be exhausting b/c you can't get away from it.
