A unique raccoon was spotted in Seattle
A raccoon named Jimothy with a rare short spine syndrome was roaming the streets, stealing food from trash cans and frightening locals with his unusual appearance.
At first, residents were startled by the strange-looking animal, but he later became a local celebrity, with people even making memes and drawings of him.
@AP The next president needs to rescind these orders and then give the land to a/some Native American tribes so the federal government can no longer sell it off
France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot larger than 1,500 square meters.
The law took effect in July 2023. Large lots over 10,000 square meters must be 50 percent covered by solar canopies by July 2026. Smaller lots have until 2028.
Exemptions exist for lots with genuine technical or environmental constraints, and for lots already shaded by trees.
France didn't just issue a mandate and walk away. The 2024 Finance Law introduced a Green Industry Tax Credit covering 25 to 40 percent of eligible solar investment costs.
Small businesses largely won't be impacted by the law. It more targets shopping centers, supermarkets, stadiums, and large commercial lots, not Le P'tit Bistrot.
Critics said businesses would just get rid of their parking lots. Carrefour, France's largest supermarket chain, is actually enthusiastically installing solar canopies across 350 stores, covering 180,000 parking spaces. It's expected to generate 450 gigawatt hours of power annually, enough to run the stores themselves, and it's using the canopies as a selling point - shaded parking makes stores more attractive to customers.
The projected energy output is expected to be up to 11 gigawatts, equivalent to roughly 10 nuclear reactors, without using a single additional acre of land.
The US has approximately 800 million parking spaces, most of them uncovered asphalt baking in direct sunlight. Should we do this too?
WWII Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Robert Hilliard:
"Next week I'll be 101 years old. In February 1944 when I was 18 years old I was inducted into the army and what they taught me to do there was to kill people who set up detention camps. Can you imagine how I felt earlier this year when they announced that one of the future detention camps would be at that same camp landing in Florida? We have a fascist, a fascist government, that allows innocent people to be put in detention camps and incarcerated."

•The U.S. Senate may hold a floor vote TODAY which would overturn a 20-year moratorium on sulfide-ore copper mining on 225,000 acres of Superior National Forest land in the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Wilderness in northern Minnesota. The Boundary Waters is the most visited Wilderness in the United States.
🛶 Enjoying the Minnesotan/Canadian wilderness by canoe or other lesser watercraft is one of our nations greatest available pastimes, and one I have personally enjoyed my entire life. We must protect these public lands from the rapacious capitalists threatening to turn them into a poisoned wasteland.
•This vote in Congress would open the door to copper mining at the headwaters of this entire ecosystem. This kind of mining produces toxic pollution, including acid runoff and heavy metals, that can contaminate nearby waters.
•The Boundary Waters supports a major outdoor economy that sustains thousands of jobs and generates over a billion dollars a year - built on clean water and intact public lands. But this vote would clear the way for toxic mining that puts all of that at risk. It would also set a dangerous precedent, making it easier to roll back protections for public lands across the country, including wilderness areas, national monuments, and national parks.
•This is a defining moment. If you care about clean water, public lands, and protecting places we can’t replace, now is the time to speak up.
•Protect the Boundary Waters, and vote NO on House Joint Resolution 140. Let’s save this treasured place for all of us—forever. https://t.co/JhNAR6Za2O
Over 400 women have been arrested since they overturned Roe v Wade... yet not a SINGLE man has been arrested for raping children with Epstein.
It’s never been about protecting children... wake up.
@CoachDanGo@mehdirhasan I wear my shoes indoors because my legs are different lengths. My shoes have a lift so my legs are the same length so it’s more comfortable
I did not campaign for this.
I did not donate money for this.
I did not vote for this, in elections or Congress.
This is heartbreaking and tragic.
And how many more innocent will die?
What about our own military?
This is not what we thought MAGA was supposed to be.
Shame!
