Amazing that @Greenpeace and @MikeHudema still don't see the problem.
Using a source that only does the job sometimes means you need something else for the rest of the time - e.g. coal - and LOADS of it.
Variable sources lock us into fossil fuels.
#degrowth#ClimateCrisis
For half an hour on Friday, Australia was running on more solar power than coal. Most of the power came from rooftop solar panels. Don't let them tell you it can't be done.
We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate#ClimateEmegency#climate#energy#renewables
2/2 Perhaps @SiNichol should read his own tweets, like the one below. It pretty much sums up his behaviour as he blocks everybody who questions his truth-free rants. How long before he's suspended?
1/2 So @SiNichol tweets this lie yet again.
Gas gen on the GB grid increased from 2020 to 2021 and in 2022 it's ahead of 2021.
He tried to squirm out of it by wittering on about trends, but the tweet is about decreases, not trends.
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister So your capacity for wind can cope with wind lulls like these https://t.co/FqmqA8GfJO and actual wind generation well below 1% of capacity (never mind 5%).
Can you share at least an overview of your calculations or are you just guessing?
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister My point was "But isn't gas in 2022 ahead of 2021 so far?". Now corrected.
You introduced the stuff about trends in your pathetic attempts to avoid admitting an error.
Your blocking & insults are of no interest to me as you struggle with truth & dealing with rational discourse.
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister I saw your false chart, and tweeted "But isn't gas in 2022 ahead of 2021 so far?"
You insulted me, tried every which way to avoid correcting it, but have now done so.
Job done.
My intention was only to get the misleading error corrected.
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister A couple of important points.
1. Look at the chart on https://t.co/JyNl0Yr8mu for yearly averages now. You'll see that gas goes up at the end, not down as you show it.
2. If you look at the dip it corresponds to the demand dip in 2020. How is that nothing to do with COVID?
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister The issue was the graph you started with, which is incorrect.
It shows the "COVID drop" in 2020, but then should be "uphill" all the way after that.
It might threaten the statement "the gas trend is distinctly down", but it would be telling the truth rather than misleading.
@ManosDePiedra86@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister The ones that you can ramp up and down are said to be dispatchable.
Gas is the main dispatchable resource used to match supply to demand in GB.
The issue is that when gas is gone we will need something else to do the job.
@sinichol@ManosDePiedra86@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister Why does wind "not have a distinct need to be smoothed"?
This chart shows daily wind on the GB grid in 2021. Looks like it needs smoothing to me 😉 .
(BTW real time wind needs a lot more smoothing still.)
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister But that's working with the CFs (averages).
Given that current capacity has generated as little one or two hundred MW at times this year, wouldn't we need about 100 times the capacity to get above a baseload of about 20GW (which will increase)?
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister Why is it pointless to make the observation that gas generation in GB has increased so far this year?
Some people reading your earlier posts might think it had declined. It hasn't.
And surely being clear about facts is at least as important as speculation about the future?
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister So when you said it has been retired it hasn't really 😀.
Hasn't coal generated more than hydro or pumped storage this year? Are they pointless as well?
I also read that there have been several occasions in 2022 when coal has been generating more than all wind. Is that true?
@sinichol@JulianConstabl4@toadmeister How much wind power capacity will we need to get to the point where minimum power output during lulls is more than UK demand?
@Miopa77@CalMacFerries Latest figures (public Health Scotland) are that almost 1 in 15 Scots currently have COVID-19.
Maybe worth taking a few precautions?
or maybe it's too much trouble and you can't be bothered?
Confused on a trip to Arran with @CalMacFerries last week.
Booking line strongly advised wearing face mask.
Notices aboard the ferry strongly urged wearing face mask.
Not a single member of the crew wore face mask.
Not really serious about customer safety, are they?
