Latest column -- result of the presidential election will have a profound impact on my work, not just what it portends for the lives of many students but the message it sent about their humanity and worth. https://t.co/yAPqSF8qEx
@MilOnYourMind@TheePhantom5000@notcapnamerica Yes, this kind of bigoted performative nonsense needs to get called out. He is an embarrassment to Louisiana but it could take a while to concince his voters to turn against him. They reelected him 2 years ago with 61%
"Do we really need to explain to JD Vance that there are decent people whose empathy goes far beyond their loved ones?" @LarryStrauss on the GOP VP nominee's cynical assumption that "people only act (and vote) in their own self-interest." @BulwarkOnline https://t.co/6gov8GOq7C
"I do not believe it is the adults alone who have inspired this radical change among students, and this is one reason I am so passionately a defender of this generation," writes Larry Strauss, author and high school English teacher. https://t.co/meJRLJDuni
@mmpadellan The story she told is an argument for why we need -- and have, for many years, needed -- a more humane immigration and asylum system to help rescue women such as the one whose awful experience Britt tried to exploit.
"What if all the conservative justices on the Supreme Court cared to acquaint themselves with the fact that affirmative action was never more than an adjustment to a system that never had anything to do with equal access?" writes contributor @LarryStrauss. https://t.co/AHCpuoaWOf
@tegepastx1@aft I dont know. If you're suggesting she is overpaid I won't disagree. Add her to the list of people with bloated salaries. Meanwhile, there aren't nearly enough talented and qualified people willing to teach kids for the salaries offered.
Check out my latest from USA TODAY: We all want good teachers. Why aren't we willing to pay for them?
Why would a school district want to keep teacher pay as low as possible? It's not out of deep concern for taxpayers.

@MD_Murphy @JoshuaPHilll Perhaps I understand the point of this differently than you. I talk to former students now in law enforcement who say they would prefer a different approach to dealing with people whose crime is that they are unhoused.
Check out my latest from USA TODAY: Who's really behind the Parents Bill of Rights Act in our culture war?
Politicians hopping on parental rights bandwagon exploit families' real concerns to wage culture war against students and teachers.

@coolsmokintodd Thanks for reading. I do think fragments have their place. They can be effective. At the right time. In the right place. My students know this -- and they know not to use them in an academic paper.
@1sccpa I don't doubt that there is ineffective teaching going on in CA (and many other places). I have witnessed it. And with teacher shortage many kids are taught by a parade of subs.
@1sccpa Not sure what you wish me to consider about other stakeholders. Everyone needs talented and committed teachers for all students. As for non-union teachers, Europe has national labor strikes. Perhaps we need one to help you get unionized. BTW, we get 9 weeks off in summer.
"There has always been attrition in our ranks. But I fear that many young educators who have the potential to be great teachers are repelled by a system that continually devalues us," writes @LarryStrauss. https://t.co/6KsbVkbdLM
@GiftedTawk No. Not impolite at all. We all share -- or ought to anyway -- the same objective. We should support each other and help each other as much as we can. Your suggestion may not always be possible or practical but if you think it will help you better help students no shame asking
