@maxfawcett Here is the math for a single person driving 20,000 km and 30,000 km in Newfoundland and Labrador. Notice I have used 19.55 cents which is the carbon tax plus HST. Please correct me if you see a math error.
The common narrative is:
“EVs will reduce oil demand, therefore oil is finished.”
Can you make an EV, a wind turbine or a solar panel without oil or gas?
Demand for transportation is slowing in many developed countries, but oil and natural gas demand as industrial feedstocks remains one of the strongest growth areas.
The key term is petrochemicals. These are the building blocks for:
Plastics
Synthetic fibers (polyester, nylon)
Fertilizers
Pharmaceuticals
Packaging
Medical equipment
Electronics
Paints and coatings
Automotive components
What the International Energy Agency (IEA) says
The IEA has repeatedly concluded that petrochemicals are becoming the largest source of future oil-demand growth. Their analysis found:
Petrochemicals account for more than one-third of oil demand growth to 2030 and nearly half of oil demand growth to 2050.
The IEA estimates petrochemicals could add roughly 7 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2050.
Natural gas demand is growing too
Natural gas is not just burned for electricity and heating. It is a critical feedstock for:
Ammonia
Nitrogen fertilizer
Methanol
Hydrogen
Petrochemicals
The IEA projects petrochemicals will consume an additional 56 billion cubic metres of natural gas by 2030, rising further by 2050.
Recent evidence (2025-2026)
The IEA’s latest Oil 2025 outlook specifically highlights that growing production of natural gas liquids (ethane, propane, butane) is occurring in an era of petrochemical-driven demand growth.
The U.S. EIA also forecasts:
U.S. ethane exports rising 14% in 2025 and another 16% in 2026.
Growth is being driven by global demand for ethane as a petrochemical feedstock.
Natural gas plant liquid exports reached record levels in 2025, with the EIA explicitly citing growing petrochemical feedstock demand as a major driver.
The IEA expects road-fuel growth to weaken substantially, particularly in developed countries, but petrochemicals remain one of the few large sectors where oil and gas demand continues to grow.
After all, can you make an EV, a wind turbine or a slar panel with using oil or gas?
My stepDad has been in the hospital for over a month. He likely has more than a month to continue to heal and physical therapy before he's released. Cost to my parents? $0 and the social worker even arranged for a free parking pass.
Thank you Canada and Tommy Douglas!!!
While Donald Trump is getting dissed by American artists such as Milli Vanilli and Brett Michaels, President Claudia Sheinbaum is welcoming U2 to Mexico to talk about what a real president does with their power. Universal healthcare and raising the minimum wage. Love it!!
Economists call this diminishing marginal utility. The first dollars change your life. The billionth doesn't. So the argument stops being about consumption and starts being about power.
MAJOR BREAKING: Epstein survivors just announced they will release their own list of names.
“We know who abused us. We saw who came and went. This list will be survivor-led—for survivors.”
The government stalled.
Now the victims are doing it themselves.
Ken Paxton is throwing everything he has at us.
He’s called me a radical leftist. He’s called me a fake Christian. He’s even called me a vegan!
I’m an 8th generation Texan — I've been eating BBQ since before Ken Paxton’s first indictment.
if a doctor who graduated medical school says you need something, it should be illegal for someone sitting behind an insurance desk with absolutely zero medical training to deny you coverage...
New article from Global Business Reports
Interview with Nolan K. Peterson
“There has not been a new salt mine built in North America in approximately 25 years, leading to reliance on imports from countries such as Chile and Egypt.”

The Nazis were socialist because they had “socialist” in their name in the same way that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a democracy and buffalo wings are made from buffalo.
There is no credible evidence this happened. The post has multiple hallmarks of fabricated political virality:
* No major Canadian or international news outlet reported a “47-page US proposal” demanding Canada suspend global trade deals or allow US oversight of Canadian policy.
* There is no public record of Mark Carney storming out of a meeting with Donald Trump over such a document.
* The wording itself is implausible diplomatically. Governments do pressure allies on trade, energy, and regulation — but not in the cartoonishly explicit “allow US oversight on our policies” language shown here.
* The image uses classic engagement-bait formatting:
* giant “BREAKING NEWS” banner
* emotionally satisfying nationalist framing
* highly specific but unverifiable details (“47 pages”, “38 seconds”)
* no source documents, dates, meeting names, or quotes from established outlets.
Also, the account shown (“Terry T.”) is not itself evidence. Political X/Twitter posts routinely recycle invented stories that fit audience emotions.
