Interested in philosophy, mathematics and more. The Oppenheimer movie is a masterpiece. Art is great, when you have the time to walk through galleries.
The danger of AI is not that malevolent AI will decide that we are like ants and can be crushed at will. Its that by slowly creeping into every corner of society, it will make humans like the eloi, with no will or ability to fend for itself.
@skdh I think its pretty crazy already. Hurling around at 80 klicks an hour at a narrow strip of road, with other cars hurling in the other direction just a meter apart.
How is our supposedly glorious transition to electric vehicles going? Last year I said that I expect a shift towards more hybrid vehicles. Was I right, was I wrong?

Today is the birthday of French mathematician and political activist Évariste Galois.
His most profound work was written at age 18, and died in a duel at age 20.
He answered a long-standing and widely-studied unsolved question: he showed that there is no general formula for finding the roots of a polynomial of degree 5 or higher.
He found a deep connection between two areas of mathematics: in this case, group theory and field theory.
In so doing, he created new areas of mathematics that opened doors for generations of researchers.
Just think what he might have accomplished if he had lived.
Today would have been my father's 78th birthday. He died aged 42. My stepfather and father-in-law didn't get old either, leaving behind two widows. Women, take good care of your men, they don't last long. 💞
