“Ni Hao!”During my recent holiday trip to Headlands, Manicaland, an elderly man greeted me warmly in Chinese, opening the door to a remarkable chapter of history. 🇨🇳🇿🇼

In late 1963, while Zimbabwe was still under colonial rule, Mr. Bernard Musekiwa Mberi was selected to travel to China alongside other freedom fighters for four months of intensive training. He and his comrades studied Mao Zedong Thought, learned guerrilla warfare and leadership, and undertook demanding field exercises—a period they fondly refer to as their “Little Long March.” He traveled through Beijing and beyond, witnessing New China’s development firsthand and experiencing the profound warmth and solidarity extended to African liberation movements.

During a May Day celebration in 1964, he was even received by Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, and had the honor of shaking hands with Chairman Mao—an experience he recalls as one of the most important moments of his life.

More than six decades later, his memories of China remain remarkably vivid. His journey from the fields of Zimbabwe to the training grounds of China, and that historic handshake, are far more than personal memories. They are powerful reminders of the enduring ties that bind 🇨🇳🇿🇼 histories, presents, and futures.🤝

Zimbo builds US$0,5m hospital in Zvishavane

ZVISHAVANE – Valley seeds director, Nkatazo Temba Chakawa has built a US$0,5 million hospital in his home area in Zvishavane to assist villagers.
The solar-powered hospital is named Nkatazo. On Tuesday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Soda Zhemu toured the hospital, which is under Runde Rural District Council in Ward 10 During the tour, villagers appealed to Government to officially open the hospital and capacitate it with resources.
Construction work started in 2004 and the hospital was completed early this year. The hospital has since opened with eight nurses. Zvishavane District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Tapiwa Mubayi described the hospital as big and told the Minister that it is already receiving patients.
