Dear Kenyan middle class, your overpriced rental, 2nd hand Japanese/German car or cushy 15th floor corporate job at Upperhill can't shield you from dysfunction.
You're more close to Us, the Natives, than you are to being an extractive billionaire. Stop being delusional, Wake Up!
Probably best to seek clarity when this happens.
1. History matters. After the 2017 media shutdown, High Court ruled in Feb 2018 that the government's action was unconstitutional, illegal, and a violation of Article 34. Justice Chacha Mwita declared that the Communications Authority has NO power to shut down broadcasters. This precedent is critical today.
2. This media blackout represents a fundamental constitutional clash. Media's guaranteed freedom to report under Article 34 versus government's interpretation of ‘maintaining order’, using Article 33(2) (Limits on Speech) & Section 46I (Broadcaster Rules) to justify the ban. The government cannot be the sole arbiter of what Kenyans and the world see.
3. If official broadcasts are silenced, the broadcast shifts to the people. The secret is in the numbers.
