in the middle of a heatwave and yāall are ājokingā about getting ill from a parasite that will leave you overwhelmingly dehydrated because you might drop all of 7 lbs⦠okā¦
gas high, rent high, groceries high, medicine and overall healthcare are unaffordable, the job market is in the dirt, childcare is nonexistent⦠and these people are voting on whether it should be 6 or 8am when the sun rises. š
There's a way that you guys are speaking about and treating Rihanna now that she isn't a childless, thin 20-something year old single woman.
There's a thin layer of venom i'm sensing in the way she's being spoken about now
āShame on you Jeff Bezosā
Activists in NYC project a message on the side of Jeff Bezosā $120M penthouse from a 72-year-old Amazon worker in North Carolina ahead of the MET Gala tonight
the pitt does other peopleās reactions to autism so well. nobody is outright cruel to her but theyre all so passively mean. its a very quiet, everyday type of exclusion, like that āsubtleā almost automatic discomfort ppl have when interacting with autistic ppl. reminds me of how+
realizing the "never apologize or offer condolences for something you didnt directly intentionally choose to do or cause" mindset feels deeply connected to the "i didn't do all the bad things my ancestors did, so how dare you expect me to acknowledge how i privilege from it"
The ānever apologize unless I intended to cause harmā attitude really does explain why White people deny their privilege. They think intent matters more than the harm caused. These people will run you over and say itās okay cause they didnāt mean to.
Trigger Warning: This post references a 400 year racial slur that has been used to dehumanize Black people. It also discusses Tourette syndrome and Coprolalia. If a social media post can provide this clarity, a global broadcaster on a 2 hour programming delay certainly could have. CC:BAFTA and BBC.
To be Black is to know that Grace will be demanded of you before accountability ever is.
And thatās exactly what played out on the BAFTA stage.
And let's be clear, that man's racism affected those two Black men tonight, but look at the trickle-down effect. It is now impacting us here too because we now have to deal with all of you racists gaslighting and attacking us on his behalf.
Asking for more grace for the person who shouted a racist slur instead of for Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, who had to push through being embarrassed in front of their peers.
But thatās often the expectation ā that Black people are just supposed to be ok with being disrespected and dehumanized so that other people donāt feel bad.
Itās #BlackHistoryMonth and I have to ask:
Are people including enslaved Africans, descendants of those enslaved, and Black people whose unjust, low-wage labor sustained the economy in the 1800s/1900s as immigrants when they say āimmigrants built this countryā?
Because chattel slavery was for the express purpose of building empire.
But our ancestors werenāt folks who came here seeking a better life.
They arrived in chains, were bred like cattle, and severely violated, sexually and otherwise. Their trauma shouldnāt be diminished or forgotten, even in efforts toward freedom from ICEās inhumane, violent tactics.
We can only get to justice for all when truth is taught, embraced, and spoken.
yāall would literally NEVER travel to another country to diminish or ācorrectā the Black people of that country on their history and accomplishments on the day, week, month, etc. that they choose to celebrate it, so WHY is it that yāall do this to Black Americans⦠in America?
Me. It might have started with good intentions but most of the time the rich use it to rent the wombs of poor women. Before you say, ābut they paid for itā the rich will always be able to pay and the poor will always need money. That doesnāt automatically make it right
If the value of pregnant labor is $100K, why not pay every woman who conceives $100K at birth? Because $100k pays for her rights to her baby. Legally separating mothers from the babies growing inside them, turning a mother into a vessel, was the project of patriarchy: turning women into domesticated breeders. In old patriarchy, men had to marry & support women & progeny to own their babies. Now they can hire them short-term to own their babies. The same elites who donāt know what a woman is donāt know that birth is a womanās rite of passage.
