@PeterHanna9@RugbyInsideLine A lot of the doubts are based on things like him being really slow to turn, which makes him ineffective as a sweeper tackler in the back field, so not very suitable as an international fullback. And this good kick has nothing to do with that.
@will_hooley Borthwick learnt from Arundell's red card that if you have a back three player on a yellow card, it's a risk to leave them on the field. I'd say that's why he chose Steward as the player to come off for Smith.
@RugbyInsideLine The main reason for that sub was surely that it's a risk keeping a player on who's on a yellow, particularly when they go for high balls. Commentators didn't grasp that either. But at least Eng coaches seem to have learnt one thing from Murrayfield and acted on it
@TightFive_Rugby Is it just me or could we hear a whistle being blown just before the 1st 2 tries were actually scored? That and the weird atmosphere there makes watching these tries seem very odd. The crowd noise sounds like a swimming pool at the local leisure centre.
@willgkelleher I already knew we're not as good as Bristol at the moment, so this hasn't been much of a surprise for me. At least Will Hobson looks to be a bit of an animal
@harlequinspod Such a good back three today in general. I thought Nick David's performance was the best I've seen a Quins fullback play for a longgg time
@YeOldeDullard@spank_man10@TightFive_Rugby Do you not understand that everything that you've just said is just standard rugby and exactly the same behaviour that all other players would be doing in the same situation? The only problem here is that it ended up being late by a split second, so perhaps the penalty is correct
@TheRealPanicFC@RugbyInsideLine Exactly yeah. Once you're committed and don't have time to slow down, the correct and safest thing to do is what he did - continue with the tackle, and make sure you wrap your arms around the player, rather than just bouncing off him.
@jfranallende@TightFive_Rugby You're allowed to tackle as the player is kicking, the penalty offence is if it's late after the kick has finished. Arguably the later it is after the kick, the safer it is. Every team in the world tries to tackle kickers whenever they get the chance.
@TightFive_Rugby If the teams were reversed and it was Steward kicking, could we really imagine the likes of Rubiola and Matera not trying to tackle him?? Wild to then get on a high horse about it.
@willgkelleher You equally could look at the 2 games against Argentina (England and Scotland) as being a pattern, so maybe this makes things look a bit less bad for Scotland.
@RugbyInsideLine I thought Steward was better than usual. He even made a one on one tackle after a NZ line break, which is usually the worst part of his game
