Rupert Lowe’s Restore Britain wants to abolish inheritance tax a major change for families passing on homes, farms and businesses.
Under current UK rules, inheritance tax is generally charged at 40% on the portion of an estate above the applicable tax-free thresholds, although exemptions and reliefs can substantially change the bill. Restore Britain proposes abolishing the tax entirely, arguing that families should be able to pass assets between generations without an inheritance-tax charge.
For a family farm or small business, that distinction can matter because much of the estate’s value may be tied up in land, buildings or the business itself rather than sitting in cash. Restore Britain specifically presents those families as beneficiaries of its proposal. But abolition would also remove revenue currently collected by the Exchequer; Restore says it would offset that through spending reductions elsewhere. That is the party’s proposal, not enacted policy.

Restore Britain is now just 2% behind the Greens, according to the latest poll, closing a gap that seemed unthinkable only months ago.

Rupert Lowe's party is eating into support that Labour, the Conservatives and Reform UK all assumed was locked in elsewhere. A party that didn't exist a year ago is now within touching distance of a Green Party that's had decades to build its base.

Westminster should be paying attention. This isn't a protest vote anymore, it's a genuine movement, and it's growing faster than anyone in the establishment wants to admit.

Rupert Lowe gambles on ten Norfolk seats-and wins all ten: ASTONISHING!

In May 2026, Restore Britain’s local partner, Great Yarmouth First, sweeps every one of the ten council seats it contests in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk,turning Rupert Lowe’s first tightly controlled electoral test into a real bloc at County Hall.

The result begins with a setback. Lowe creates the local party in December 2025 and says it will fight every seat in his constituency. Its first registration application comes back rejected as incomplete, with the elections only four months away.

The easy response is panic. Lowe chooses patience.

By 1 April, Restore Britain has been formally registered for just 12 days. It has offers of candidates around the country, but Lowe refuses to scatter untested names across thousands of ballot papers. He draws a hard line: nine Norfolk County Council divisions and one Great Yarmouth Borough Council by-election. Ten contests. One town. Five weeks.

That choice matters. Voters know the misery of parties recruiting anybody with a pulse, winning seats, and discovering too late that a name on a ballot is not the same as a responsible councillor. Lowe says candidates must be vetted, interviewed and ready to do the work.

Then the campaign becomes gloriously physical. Volunteers pour into this Norfolk seaside constituency. Leaflets move through streets and villages. At 68, Lowe climbs a ladder in a greyhound-stadium car park, steadies a megaphone and speaks to about 350 people. It is not Westminster theatre. It is a man staking a national idea on whether one place trusts his team.

Polling day answers him.

Great Yarmouth First wins all nine county divisions, with winning shares from about 41% to 51%, plus the Caister South borough by-election. Reform finishes second in eight of the nine county races. The nine county candidates collect 15,610 votes between them-1,225 more than Lowe’s own winning Commons tally in 2024, although the elections are not like-for-like.

And the seats are not decorative. At Norfolk County Council’s first meeting, Great Yarmouth First votes help remove three taxpayer-funded political assistant posts, a change expected to save about £164,000 a year.

This is why Rupert Lowe and Restore Britain deserve to be taken seriously. He does not try to look national before proving he can organise locally. The plan begins with ten carefully chosen names in one overlooked coastal town.

All ten finish as councillors.

Andy Burnham has announced at the UN a new ‘National Centre for Information Defence’ to wage war against ‘untrue narratives’. He claims that “everything we hold dear” is under attack from so-called “misinformation”. This might be the most censorious thing a modern British Government has done.

We already have NSOIT, the Government Communication Service, the Media Monitoring Unit, RICU, the Defending Democracy Taskforce, the Joint Election Security and Preparedness Unit, the FCDO’s Information Threats and Influence Directorate, 77th Brigade, NCSC/GCHQ, the National Cyber Force and the Social Cohesion Taskforce.

Is that not enough? How do we know this new body won’t be weaponised to silence dissent and chill free speech?
Will it reprimand the Government itself? FSU Director of Policy and Research @DavidRoseUK's new briefing argues that the Government has itself been spreading misinformation about misinformation — exaggerating the scale of the threat it poses.

The Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy, flounced off X, citing the spread of misinformation as a threat to democracy. If government ministers genuinely care about tackling mis- and disinformation, they should stay, debate and challenge falsehoods with more information — not less.

It is vital that the UK defends our democracy against hostile actors such as Russia. But safeguards are essential to prevent bodies established for that purpose from expanding their remit to domestic dissent and policing the social media posts of British citizens who criticise government policy.

We should remember that more than 62,000 people have reportedly been arrested for “speech offences” in Britain over the past five years — including social media posts.

Meanwhile, under its media green paper, Watch This Space, the Labour Government is already proposing measures intended to promote “trustworthy” news sources. The concern is that this could favour established outlets such as the BBC while disadvantaging more critical outlets such as GB News and independent journalism.

The Government needs to explain exactly what powers this new Centre will have, who decides what constitutes an “untrue narrative”, and what safeguards will prevent it from becoming a tool for policing lawful dissent.

2026 Britain is turning more into 1984 by the day. We literally now have a Ministry of Truth.
