“I don’t know why anybody would be opposed to this. It’s a readily available technology...it’s been an NTSB recommendation for almost 20 years to have ADS-B In.”🔥 @ALPAPresident to Sen. @JerryMoran at yesterday's hearing, when asked why this life-saving tech mandate has stalled.
Today, families of Flight 5342 attended the Senate hearing on improving safety across the National Airspace System.
In recent months, we’ve seen serious incidents and close calls at Boston Logan, Newark, LaGuardia, and beyond. These are not isolated events-
“Every day, every minute, that passes without implementation of all 50 NTSB recommendations represents a continued and unacceptable risk to public safety.”- @NTSB Chair @JenniferHomendy

I don’t blame @ERICSORENSEN for choosing IAD over DCA that said I encourage you & all your colleagues to vote for meaningful aviation reform like the Alert Act which addresses all NTSB recs with stronger ADSB IN language so that all of our airspace be safe and trusted to fly in.
I may be the only Member of Congress that flies exclusively out of Dulles since the crash and have encouraged others to do the same because the situation around DCA is still precarious at best.
Yes, @SenateDems@SenateGOP@HouseDemocrats@HouseGOP pass aviation safety legislation so that future families won’t have to be on the Hill advocating for this. The Alert Act addressing the NTSBs 50 recommendations with stronger ADSB IN language and deadlines will be impactful.
We are very thankful for @RepValHoyle and her commitment to #aviationsafety. We are pleased with the ALERT
Act addressing all 50 @NTSB recommendations related to our accident to help prevent similar midair collisions.
What ALERT still needs is stronger and clearer ADS-B In language in section 104 and stricter compliance
deadlines. We must see those things in addition to what ALERT already addresses.
We are very thankful for @RepBresnahan and his strong words regarding #aviationsafety. We are pleased with the ALERT

Although present during today’s markup, our presence should not be interpreted as an endorsement.
We showed up because progress matters—but recommendations without firm deadlines and clear mandates can become recommendations without results.
I’ve lost count of how many close calls there have been. @TransportGOP@TransportDems it’s time to do something about this. I’ll help get you started - mandated ADSB IN in all airspace & on all aircraft where ADSB OUT is currently mandated, this will prevent tragedy. Ask @NTSB
@TransportGOP@TransportDems these are the beautiful faces of delay - delay to act, delay to implement critical aviation safety measures. There are 65 more faces to see. Are 67 lives enough to finally act? Or will the delay continue? It’s time to make ADSB IN law.
This is Christine and Spencer in 2013. 5 years after @NTSB first recommended ADS-B IN. NTSB asked at least 16 more times. S didn't live to see his 17th bday. The @famofflight5342 ask the @TransportDems and @TransportGOP : please listen to NTSB this time. Mandate ADS-B IN.
While it's true that @famofflight5342 are fighting in honor of the 67 people we lost, we're not fighting FOR them. It's too late for them. We're fighting for YOUR family members. Terrifying near misses still happen all of the time.
We are thankful to @SecDuffy for his continued efforts in making skies safer, and we look forward to @TransportGOP@TransportDems improving the alert act with adding basic proven safety measures recommended by the @NTSB Make equipped and operational ADSB IN law.
🚨BREAKING: Enhanced safety protocols go into effect TODAY at airports nationwide
Air traffic controllers will now actively manage helicopters in areas near busy airports 🚁 ✈️
SAFETY is the #1 PRIORITY at @USDOT under the Trump administration @FAANews
ADS-B In integrated onto flight displays gives pilots a clear picture of the operating environment and more time to react. To close the gaps in the aviation safety net exposed by the PSA 5342 tragedy, the ALERT Act must require ADS-B In. https://t.co/eFtydeSNMX
I never met Chris, but because of this tragedy I’ve had the heartbreaking honor to get to know his brother @MattCollins5342 who fights relentlessly for critical aviation safety measures to be put into law. Chris should still be here. Matt and I shouldn’t know each other.

@TransportGOP@TransportDems@RepSamGraves@RepRickLarsen Do you know how many good, young lives were lost on flight 5342?
Mandate ADS-B In. No carve-outs.

The NTSB found the midair collision near DCA was 100% preventable. With ADS-B In, the pilots would have had 3x more warning time. Tell your member of Congress the House should amend the ALERT Act to require integrated ADS-B In & prevent another tragedy. ➡️ https://t.co/eFtydeSNMX
67 lives lost is sadly enough to be used to create an airplane drawing, but is it enough to get critical aviation safety legislation passed? @RepSamGraves@RepRickLarsen@TransportGOP@TransportDems Mandate Operational ADSB-IN on all aircraft , no military carveouts! #aa5342
