“The FAA already has the authority — and the responsibility — to implement every National Transportation Safety Board recommendation. Administrator Bedford must act.” - @SenDuckworth https://t.co/xDBYbD5nwX
FLIGHT 5342 MEMORIAL:
A memorial was unveiled along the Potomac River honoring the 67 victims killed during last January's mid-air collision. @famofflight5342 in attendance.
The memorial site features a sign, bench and trees planted as a place of remembrance @JenniferHomendy
The extent to which the @FAANews, the aviation industry, and powerful members of Congress are shamelessly resisting common sense technology that the @NTSB has been recommending for longer than my now-dead son was alive is truly disgusting.
The U.S. aviation system is the safest in the world, but it's sending clear warning signs it's under strain. As the voice of aviation safety, airline pilots will not stand by silently. We're urging Congress to pass the best of the ROTOR and ALERT Acts. https://t.co/11qNoQ7M5M
@GovDanMcKee Thank you for joining us to honor my wife on what would have been her 51st birthday. This new park will not fill the void of her loss, but bringing some joy to the community of dogs and dog lovers like her in RI is the best possible way to honor her.
A beautiful day in Barrington where I was proud to sign legislation dedicating the Christine Conrad Lane Memorial Dog Park. May it serve as a lasting tribute to her memory and a place of comfort for her family and the community. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
Joined the moving dedication of the Christine Conrad Lane Memorial Dog Park.
Christine, who was tragically lost in the Flight 5342 crash with her son Spencer, loved dogs & volunteered at Rhode Home Rescue.
Thanks to Doug Lane, the Barrington community & volunteers for their work.
The @FAANews, which pulled some ridiculous crap in response to @NTSB information requests during their investigation, appears to be off to a similar start with @theNASEM.
We’re watching.
@Oriana0214@theNASEM What happened to the emails with in the @FAANews regarding the working groups recommendations? Why did an agency who is responsible for the safety of the flying public, ignore (at best) obvious safety issues raised by this group (including their own employees?
I’ve been extremely impressed with the expertise, compassion, and professionalism of @theNASEM committee so far. This investigation is direct result of @famofflight5342 advocacy efforts. We pushed for months for its inclusion in the T-HUD appropriations bill.
Yesterday NTSB staff sat with @theNASEM researchers to talk about findings from the DCA crash, with a few more revealing details. For example, the ad hoc helicopter working group that formed after 2013 to look at problematic routes — but whose paper trail eventually went cold — identified “the very hot spot” where the midair crash occurred. No one did anything with the data. https://t.co/3zkePCJ2Uo
The project was initially focused on just mixed air traffic, but now includes ADS-B data, “so we now feed it every day, real time, what the airplanes are doing… we can see unstabilized approaches… long landings that create intersection risk, and we can identify, is that an actual user, an airline, that has maybe a training issue, is it a runway design issue, is it a taxiway design issue…”
Imagine a world where the @FAANews showed up with a proactive plan for this rather than outsourcing the technology strategy to Congress and then spending years outlining all of the reasons it isn’t possible.
.@FAA_Bryan confirms what I think has been a big assumption for the last few months: The FAA isn't going to move forward on ADS-B or ACAS X technology implementation until Congress figures out how to reconcile the ROTOR & ALERT bills.
I’m supportive of ambitious goals like ATC modernization, but the @NTSB made 33 very specific recommendations to the @FAANews in January. We deserve a substantive update on each and every one tomorrow.
I think many gov’t officials underestimate the number of lives beyond immediate family that were touched by the Flight 5342 tragedy. Lots of folks in skating rinks, churches, and other communities who now know what ADS-B In is and are paying attention. Time for action.
News: Families of those killed in last year’s Washington midair collision have over 4,800 signatures on their letter, obtained by @politico, to bipartisan congressional leaders urging them to merge the ROTOR Act and ALERT Act, with specific asks: @famofflight5342 1/
“Every day, every minute, that passes without implementation of all 50 NTSB recommendations represents a continued and unacceptable risk to public safety.”- @NTSB Chair @JenniferHomendy
