Did you know:
That c. 84% of Muslim women in N. America do not wear a veil
That women in other traditions also wear veils.
That many Muslims are white. And Asian. And black.
That both progressives and Islamophobes tend to reduce Muslim women's identities to Arab women in hijabs.

Hot teaching tip:
Students' requests almost always boil down to "Am I doing this right? Do I belong here?" Even (especially) the difficult ones.
Meet them with compassion & understanding, even (especially) when they least deserve it & they'll (usually) give you their best work.

It’s almost like this isn’t actually about that at all. 🤔🙄
FYI there are Arab Jews, and “our 🇨🇦 vets” include Arabs & Muslims. So does “our” country.

@realfrugalmogul 3) You live in America where post-secondary costs are debilitating. Uni there has been divorced from the pursuit of knowledge, critical thinking, & life experience to instead be a for-profit employment machine. Education isn’t to get a job, it’s to get an education.

Does that make it ok? Not even a little not ever. The gesture is inherently hate-based and *never* ok.

I also believe it’s important to understand the difference between pro-🇵🇸 protestors *promoting* N*ziism & *condemning* it (while terribly wrongly executed).

@AccentInvesting I told this formula to my 17yo the other day and she replied, “then how much for giving?” When she was little we did the “saving, spending, sharing” categories.
It’s a good question! How much do you allocate to giving/charity in this?

@agentgina1 - then we make professional spaces more welcoming and accessible to women+ who are also parents, and in so doing take a chunk out of the gender pay gap & the gender CV gap.

@agentgina1 and in doing so is trying to destigmatize parenting - a primarily feminine-associated activity - from being taboo in the workplace or less important than other meetings. Childcare still primarily falls to mothers & when we acknowledge how important that work is (b/c work it is)-
