Q9: How can #SBHCs address the social, environmental and economic conditions (also known as determinants) that influence young people’s health -- like poverty, homelessness, trauma, and food insecurity? #SBHCmonth19
A11: School-Based Health Care members have access to a great member benefit: the Blueprint. Downloadable soup to nuts editable resources for SBHC planning, implementation, and improvement. #sbhcmonth19
A10: Young people experiment with nicotine, alcohol, and other substances. It's a fine line between when experimentation becomes problem substance use. SBHCs using SBIRT screen for and intervene youth before addiction occurs. #sbhcmonth19
A9: The CDC Community Guide credits SBHCs as an evidence-based intervention that changes the communities and the social determinants of health that exist within them. #sbhcmonth19
A8: SBHCs partner with schools to address physical and behavioral health issues that impact academic achievement. SBHCs referrals are a great alternative to discipline and suspension. #SBHCmonth19
A7: A number of SBHCs offer healthy cooking classes to their students and families, celebrating cultural differences in a healthy way over breaking healthy bread. #SBHCmonth19
#SBHC At a recent visit to a high school I spoke with a beautiful young girl who covered her mouth because she had decayed teeth. Luckily her high school in Bradenton, FL will soon offer oral health to students.

#SBHCs provide immediate access to care at the school. Parents don't have to leave work to take them to the doctor. Most are treated and go back to class; they miss less class time and get better grades. Wish this was available in the schools my children attended. #sbhcmonth19
Q4: Our country is in the midst of a DEVASTATING opioid crisis and many teens are addicted. However, even more young people have a loved one who abuses these drugs. How does the #opioid crisis affect teens and young children? How can mental health in schools help? #SBHCmonth18
@MASBHC@sbh4all alot of children have been exposed to trauma as a result of the parent's drug addiction and suffer from anxiety. The #opiod epidemic effects more than adults/ #sbhcmonth18
