@kidlitchat I just read Cursed by Karol Ruth Silverstein. It's about a teen dealing with a painful neverending disease that is pissing her off, and I zipped through it. Quite involving, assuming you don't mind a bit of cursing
@alechiawrites @AndreaJLoney Reminds me of a time when my neighbor & his friends had been playing football while I hovered nearby. He asked me if I wanted to play. I said yes.
He threw me the ball & said, "Go ahead." His mom was right there & just smiled w/ her arm around him. Wish I'd thought of revenge!
@LindaSuePark is a boss. Loved her tips on developing voice with word choice and rhythm, and letting oneself experiment during revision. "Play with your work!" she orders:)
#SCBWIBigFiveOh
@FineAngeline said "My inherent worth is not impacted by trauma." Something to remember in one's life and with one's characters. Thanks for sharing this. #SCBWIBigFiveOh
@nikkigrimes9 packed her 15 minutes with tips at #SCBWIBigFiveOh. Loved advice on trite phrasing and thinking of cliches as place holders for "language that's fresh and original." She advises, "Don't settle for ok. Good enough, isn't."
The #SCBWIBigFiveOh has begun. @malindalo
was first & @MarlaFrazee second. With limited time, each distilled their presentation to its essence. @malindalo described vision, while @MarlaFrazee presented writing with pictures. Kind of like a Twitter challenge for conferences😀
Just read a sweet middle grade book about a transgender girl, "George," by Alex Gino (@lxgino). A contemporary story about having the strength to show your true self. It's full of gentleness and love.
A few months ago, I tore through "One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus @writerkmc. Loved it and thought how could there be a sequel? Just read "One of Us Is Next." The sequel is just as good as the original. Good for any teen or adult who likes entertaining, well-crafted mysteries
Fascinating Delacorte faux acquisition meeting at #NY21SCBWI. Loved to hear the excitement/insights about why they chose to publish or not from @LGregovic @hannahhill1225 @wendyloggia & team. Can't wait to read Love from Scratch & Violet Made of Thorns!
