BREAKING: Today, @lead_maine submitted more than 3,000 signatures for two common-sense MaineCare reforms.
We want to make sure the $1.4 billion being spent on this program each year are managed efficiently, and lately, we haven't had a lot of confidence in that.
Let's demand every provider be reviewed in person in order to start billing taxpayers, and let's ensure that the state is not funding a provider they are actively investigating for improper billing.
Maine spends more than a billion dollars a year on MaineCare. Every one of those dollars belongs to a taxpayer, and every one is supposed to reach a vulnerable Mainer who needs care. It's time to demand accountability!
We await the department's response!

"Pay now, verify later. That's exactly what it is."
The state pays MaineCare claims first and checks later, if at all. That's the design flaw Lead Maine's two rules are built to fix.

My name is Ella, I'm 17 years old.
I do long jump. I play volleyball. I go to school in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
When my school allowed a biological male into the girls' restroom without telling parents โ
I went to the school board.
With my name attached.
In my own town.
I got bullied for it. Harassed online. Even some of my own teachers came after me.
I'm still here.
Because here's what I know:
The net in women's volleyball is set nearly a foot lower for a reason.
A biological male can hit a ball across that net at force that could seriously injure a girl.
And in track โ all it takes is three biological males entering the girls' category
and not a single girl in this state stands on a podium.
I didn't speak up because it was easy.
I spoke up because somebody had to.
The Supreme Court is about to answer the question every girl in America is asking.
We're ready.

Today was "Take Your Kids to Work" Day... such a fun crew! Much of their day was spent reading the latest Redwall book, along with a little crafting & listening to Adventures in Odyssey... a good day was had by all! Anyone else doing the same this summer vacation??
Before I was in the Legislature, or even paying attention to politics, I was a nurse. In healthcare, you write EVERYTHING down. Every dose, every chart, every detail, because people are counting on it and someone will check.
That is exactly what is missing from how Maine runs MaineCare.
It is the single largest thing our state pays for, roughly one of every four dollars in the budget. And for years, almost no one has been watching that money on your behalf. The Legislature has the power to demand oversight, and it has NOT used it.
So Lead Maine did something about it. More than 1,500 Mainers spoke up and petitioned DHHS to put real accountability back into the program. The law now requires the department to act within 60 days.

What do YOU think... Should Maine opt in to the first national school voucher program? The deadline is approaching, and Maine is one of a minority of states that has not yet made a decision... New York and Colorado are two states with Democrat governors that recently opted in.

"The group wants to tighten MaineCare oversight by requiring the state to inspect providers in-person and to suspend reimbursements if a provider receives a notice of an improper payment.
'There's been a lack of accountability and transparency from the Mills administration, and that sets the tone for everyone, and that's why we're seeing what we are in the system,' Libby said."
He literally calls for coordinated enforcement with G20 countries... including China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
Yes, really!
