#CFRECultureofLiteracy Our media specialist discussed a program that is happening in our schools called We Both Read. I continued the discussion with my principal and we decided to choose 10th graders to read to PreK students using our Read with Malcolm books. #ReadWithMalcolm
๐ปBOOS AND BOOKS BASH! We collaborated for this Family Literacy Night in October๐. We are currently planning a summer โ๏ธthemed night in May to promote summer๐๏ธ reading. #CFRECultureofLiteracy
We are so excited about the upcoming Read Across America Week! We have been busy planning and getting everyone ready. This will be a week of fun with reading. #CFRECultureofLiteracy
I agree. Students need to know that reading is not just "school work", that people engage in it every day and actually enjoy it. #CFRECultureofLiteracy
Creating and environment where students understand the importance of reading and how it relates to indivisuals day to day is one area that the media specialist wants improvement. Volunteers needed: artists, doctors, lawyers, poets, etc. Make reading fun! #CFRECultureofLiteracy
At our school, Implementing "Posters Promote" as it goes with our work on one pagers...student/teacher picks a book they have read and promotes it by creating a One Pager size of poster. Film the info for web site #CFRECultureofLiteracy
Media Spec wishes she could sponsor a book club after school & get more parental involvement. We will work together to put high interest books in PBIS store #CFRECultureofLiteracy
Yes, having access to a variety of resources helps students have choice and variety so that they can read topics of interest/relevance to them. #CFREDigitalResources
When charging students with the task of writing, it is important that they are given a myriad of different topics to write on. This GPB resource will be used to help students understand the steps of writing an information summary and essay. #CFREDigitalResources
Using GPB! Always a great resource. If a Microsoft school, using Teams and Stream site allows teachers to post assignments and videos from any source. #CFREDigitalResources
In the past, I have used https://t.co/WDiQlca4Ne to hook reluctant readers. The writers publish their stories and you can search based on topics and interest. I give the students freedom to choose the topic then I review the text before they read it. #CFREDigitalResources
GALILEO ๐ฑ๐ป
While completing my Specialist degree, I used my friend's Albany State University Galileo account. I enjoyed using ProQuest Ebook Central. It is quite user friendly even on a mobile device. #CFREDigitalResources
Very interesting use of rubric for self assessment of expectations for gallery walk. They do not always give themselves the highest score. #CFRESinglePointRubric
Because it is difficult to get middle schoolers to read for pleasure, I have used Novelists to find books similar to books they have enjoyed. #CFREDigitalResources
Great idea to evaluate notetaking. A lot of students struggle in college (some high school) because they don't know how to take good notes and study. #CFRESinglePointRubric
@DeborahHeckwolf First we are working hard to improve our students' reading. Good readers eventually make good writers. Setting clear expectations for writing and providing specific feedback with a sample for a guide helps also group collaboration on a writing piece.
"In order to succeed as a writer in each discipline, students must comply with the social & cultural practices of the discipline." To do this they must have exposure. https://t.co/XpsZRaZxpE #CFREContentLearning
