But Carrick has to take responsibility tonight as well.

He chose to start Rashford and leave Cunha out. That decision changed the balance of the team. When the game became difficult, United needed someone who could carry the ball, create something and give Brighton another problem.

Cunha was sitting on the bench.

Carrick made that call.

So yes, the players have to look at themselves. But the manager has to look in the mirror too.

This wasn’t just losing a cup game.
