Britain's rules are "dictated by Brussels" if wanting to sell in the EU27 or EFTA4
..otherwise we'd sell fuck all there. They used to be *our* (shared) rules. Now we can't afford to dictate different rules to the EU (or anybody else) as it'd be too much (Mogg's words) "self harm" ..
So (along with also now giving up all notion of trying to enforce UKCA) we (by never fully reciprocating the Brexit TCA borders & unilaterally accepting the CE mark) are advantaging & favouring the EU (their exporters over our own counterparts)..
& smugglers. This won't change unless (by trying to fully enforce the Brexit TCA border & UKCA) we @griffitha prefer that @Jacob_Rees_Mogg
warned of "self harm" of far less choice, for more cost, on the GB market, for GB consumers.
(Northern Ireland, thanks to the WF, is comparatively better off here, of course)
@Nick1webb
@AlastairMorgan @PaulFaber1X Reform/Restore etc still banging the drum that THEY are the antidote to out of touch elite political class is enough for ~1/3rd the country’s population to align with that narrative. Leaving that populist cohort brings just too much social isolation (aka pain) to be worth it.
All those moaning about this and condemning Starmer need to ask themselves why the UK is in the position it is in. The people voted to leave the EU. Meaning it being much harder to access & sell into the EU. Outside the EU the UK became more vulnerable (less protected than inside the "protection racket" EU) and also more desperate to make up the shortfall in EU trading losses. Trump came along threatening to also now reduce UK access & sales into another of our bigger markets, the USA. The UK in the EU would have told Trump to sod off. The UK out of the EU was & is too weak & vulnerable to resist. All those (rightly) lamenting this trade deal should also be the loudest voices demanding a return to the EU.
Well done @ShelaghFogarty@lbc for politely but robustly unpicking the 'logic' of @SarahForRuncorn s toe-curlingly embarrassing arguments. She must be aching inside from 2nd hand embarrassment that @Nigel_Farage has put her in that position

MAGA’s way over its skis at the moment?
🚨 Imho, not enough people are (yet) familiar with this photo of Nigel Farage with convicted criminal fraudster “Posh” George Cottrell (far-right) and corrupt convicted criminal Nathan Gill (centre), the former leader of Reform UK in Wales and a former Brexit Party MEP.
On 22 July 2016 (just after the Brexit referendum), while attending the Republican National Convention (#NATCON) with Farage, Cottrell was arrested by IRS Criminal Investigation special agents at Chicago O'Hare International.
Cottrell was federally indicted on 21 counts for conspiracy to commit money laundering, wire fraud, blackmail, and extortion.
In 2014, he had met with undercover IRS federal agents in Las Vegas, where he conspired to launder millions of dollars' worth of drug money using offshore bank accounts.
Reform UK are the first UK political party to accept crypto donations.
Following a plea agreement in December 2016, prosecutors agreed to dismiss 20 counts in return for a guilty plea to a single count of wire fraud in which Cottrell admitted to explaining various ways criminal proceeds could be laundered. In March 2017, Cottrell was sentenced and released from prison, having served eight months.
In February 2026, “anti-elite” Reform UK's privately educated multimillionaire Nigel Farage, Reform UK's privately educated multimillionaire Richard Tice, and Reform UK's privately educated multimillionaire treasurer, Nick Candy (who features in the #EpsteinFiles), along with Reform UK's privately educated London mayoral candidate Laila Cunningham, Reform UK's privately educated Old Etonian weirdo Policy Advisor James Orr, and GB “News” presenter and former Brexit Party MEP, Martin Daubney, all attended the launch of privately educated multimillionaire George Cottrell's book, 'How to Launder Money', at the luxury hotel Raffles on Whitehall.
Other attendees included: Ed Sumner (Head of Communications for Reform UK and a former Welsh Conservative staffer with some past controversy over WhatsApp comments on diversity and immigration); Jack Anderton, a young anti-immigrant social media campaigner and adviser closely tied to Farage and Reform UK, known for running Farage’s TikTok and working on campaigns; Aaron Lobo, Director of Operations at Reform UK with a background as a producer at GB News and LBC; Charles Carlson, nephew of Tucker Carlson, who worked as a Reform UK press aide before moving to a role at Palantir where he now operates in UK government relations and tech circles with right-leaning ties.
Among 'journalists' attending the book launch were: Glen Owen, Political Editor of the Mail on Sunday; Christian Calgie, Senior Political Correspondent (notably at the Daily Express, with moves toward Daily Mail roles); Mark Wallace, CEO of Total Politics Group (a politics media company owned by Lord Ashcroft) and former ConservativeHome CEO; Samuel Armstrong, 'Legislative Affairs Director' at Toby Young's highly partisan Free Speech Union, and; Mike Graham, podcaster and disgraced former commentator on TalkTV and GB News.
In 2020, when asked about his relationship with Cottrel,
Farage described him as “like a son to me”.
In November 2025, Gill was jailed for 10.5 years after pleading guilty to bribery charges after accepting over £40,000 from an operative linked to Russian secret services in exchange for pro-Russian speeches and TV interviews.
Anyone who still believes this bunch have working class people's interests at heart is a fool.
Just to be clear, then. FIFA:
1) can't possibly intervene when Iran are forced to move, a referee is denied a visa, or fans are barred from the USA
2) can absolutely intervene when a decision goes against the USA that Donald Trump doesn't like
Smashing. All know where we stand
FT exclusive: Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has declared his biggest single payment as an MP, receiving £270,000 from a bullion dealer, doubling his fee from 2025 https://t.co/YgWOdzCCPL
@Mars_Timeline@RichardBurgon@Nigel_Farage Touché. Isn't it great to have everything registered and transparent so MPs can be held accountable by their constituents for their spending. Should apply to leaders of all political parties looking to influence how a country is run, no? #£5mForWhatExactly
@RuariJM@BBCRosAtkins You can argue that UK is more in control of its political policies ie on immigration but you can't argue it's been a financial success.
@RuariJM@BBCRosAtkins The basic premise is not false. Evidence: Watch again - that WAS the whole point of running the Doppelgänger comparison. 2) The 'market' has determined that post-Brexit GBP is worth ~15% less vs USD. Evidence: Before 1.55 NOW 1.32 so costs of imports esp energy got more expensive
@RuariJM@BBCRosAtkins Do you think it’s closer to the other study which quoted 6-8% hit? What did you make of the Doppelgänger explanation? Or did you feel it wasn’t worth watching? Genuinely curious
@RebelHQ@BBCRosAtkins Rishi Sunak was in Ireland and let it slip when he was implementing the Windsor Framework. He told the residents of NI “you have the best of both worlds, you’re in both the EU and the UK”. So residents of Eng/ Wal / Sco are now all 2nd class citizens in comparison, 👏 🤦
@thatginamiller@LBC@IainDale@Ella_M_Whelan The only hope of breaking this business model is that the people who unquestioningly swallow @Ella_M_Whelan ‘s firehose of nonsense will start to migrate towards AI rather than SM. Why? Because AI has the ‘potential’ to offer more widely sourced aka ‘truth-inferring’ answers.
@thatginamiller@LBC@IainDale@Ella_M_Whelan wins here. She says demonstrable lies but the ‘product’ she’s actually selling is the moneytisable outrage that’s generated as a result. Her ‘customers’ are the advertisers who want to reach the segment of the population who’re desperately seeking simple answers.
