Yes the family can take action.

If hospital staff falsely claimed the patient d!ed just to force payment, that can amount to fr@ud, dece!t, and possible ext0rtion.

They can:

* Sue the hospital for damages (emotional trauma + money paid under false pretence)

* Report to Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for disciplinary action

* In serious cases, trigger a crim!nal investigation for obtaining money by false pretence

But they must be able to prove the lie and the intent.
