1/ Today, OFAC published FAQs related to Tornado Cash sanctions: https://t.co/WsGPLX8tUF
We’re glad that OFAC has heard our concerns & appreciate their effort to clarify these important issues. Yet, the FAQs don’t fully address the collateral damage caused by the designation. 🧵
Here is the thing. The grid builds on physics, not ideology. One such law says that the alternating current that flows through the grid needs to match generation with consumption – that is 525,960 minutes per year - because electricity cannot be stored in the grid.

The European electricity grid is a modern miracle. It is the largest synchronous electrical grid (by connected power) in the world. It interconnects 520 million end-customers in 32 countries, including non-European Union members such as Morocco or Turkey.

This is an interesting development to follow:
- what was the justification and rationale to detain a @TornadoCash developer
- how is it based on law
- how will this be tried, put to test
- what are the implications to the rest of the crypto industry and the society at large?
I've spent all week on the @TornadoCash sanctions & haven't heard a satisfying justification yet.
The main argument is "criminals used it a lot." Okay, but they use everything law-abiding citizens do.
Where's the line? How slippery is this slope? The uncertainty is a step back.
There will be 100 fewer fiat currencies in the next 15 years. Value from those currencies will pour into the top ~5 fiat currencies as well as Bitcoin.
Maybe keeping huge centralized databases of people isn't a great idea.
All of these data treasure chests keep getting found and cracked open. Governments, corporations, credit-rating organizations, etc.
This guy is odd.
U.S. goods and services trade with the EU 27 totaled an estimated $1.1 trillion in 2019. Exports were $468 billion; imports were $598 billion.

@zerohedge Well, they just emptied the border from their/Russian troops, sent to Ukraine. It's been lonely here, so time for some to come back. Any significant redeployment towards the Finnish border likely won't happen until next year, anyhow.
Texas is bracing for bitter cold temperatures as a major storm descends on the state. Crypto miners are stepping in and powering down to help alleviate some of the pressure on the power grid. @KenzieSigalos has the story. https://t.co/KzgXn4SwId

Some key takeaways from their 2021 Annual Report:
- They advocate for a global digital identity system
- Vaccine rollouts are a focus for them for the economic recovery
- They recommend that CBDC accounts be directly tied to a person’s identity

80% of CBs now use big data, up from 30% in 2015.
“Citizens might feel uncomfortable with the idea that CBs...are scrutinizing their search histories, social media postings or listings on market platforms.”
Nailed it! But CBs want your data anyway.
