@matt_boot_ In Arabic, I always said “عفواً؟” until my cousin in Lebanon laughed at me once and told me not to say that in public because they’d know I’m a foreigner since nobody is actually that polite. 🥲
In English I just say “sorry?”
Nurse told my mom “religious studies is more important than medical school.” Don’t think that made her feel better, but at least I know I’ve gained a hype woman.
When I took my first RS class as an elective, our prof told us that he tells people he sells refrigerators so people leave him alone. I didn’t understand what he meant until I ended up making RS one of my majors 2 years later & started seeing peoples reactions about it myself. <3
@bluebloodcoug You don’t have to be religious to study religion, just like you don’t have to be on fire to study thermodynamics. But even so, it’s possible to be religious and still study religion from a critical, academic perspective.
Was just working on my essay and got an email from my prof who shared with me an article they came across while they were doing their own research because they knew it was relevant to my paper. I really have the best instructors in the world!

The value of reading, and of writing things down that we read, or hear, cannot be overstated. Two expert guests (who specialize in speech and memory) on the Huberman Lab podcast explained that when we read text or listen to something and then write key aspects/takeaways down by hand- not typing, it engages our motor control centers in ways that deeply embed that information to our memory. Taking notes, however cursory, turns out to be the best way to remember and implement information later.
