It’s a service paid for with your tax dollars. Social adult daycares provide meals, care, social activities and other assistance to seniors and people with disabilities. CBS News has spent weeks investigating these centers across New York – and now we’ve learned, the feds are also asking questions about possible fraudulent activity.

We went to Flushing, Queens, where our reporting found the nation's densest cluster of these facilities: 64 social adult day care centers within a one-mile radius.

Flushing is also home to one of New York City's largest senior populations. Our analysis found an unusual pattern. From 2018 to 2024, the neighborhood's Medicaid-eligible senior population grew about 20% — in line with the national trend. But during that same period, the number of seniors local social adult day care centers billed for increased 390%.
