In fact their conquests were so infamous, that even my favorite historical figure, the Mohawk Joseph Brant had legend that his parents were absorbed Hurons from their conquests (unlikely given the timeframe but interesting for the normalcy the Iroquois Mourning Wars held).

@pegobry_en It actually was the Iroquois Half-King Tanacharison, who joined Washington largely to display power to local tribes by killing Frenchmen. Washington didn’t know his intentions and stopped him from slaughtering all the French prisoners.
