I played the Miami Dolphins tonight +3.5 -110, risking $2200 to win $2000. This bet is being added to my portfolio as it is a hedge against my large position on the Ravens to not make the playoffs. Ideally, Pittsburgh will win by 1, 2, or 3, and I can win the hedge bet without having to suffer with the anguish of Pittsburgh losing outright.

Carolina Panthers to win the division +113 risking $1500 to win $1700.

Carolina plays New Orleans this week. Tampa lost to Atlanta last night. If Carolina wins and loses to Seattle in two weeks. They will have two games remaining both against Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay's other game is Miami, which assuming they win would leave both teams with identical records with two games to play against each other. If Carolina beats New Orleans, they will hold the Tiebreaker over Tampa, needing only to split their remaining two games against them. Since a win by Carolina puts them in a significant advantage to win the division, and since they are better than a -150 favorite over New Orleans on the money line this week, playing Carolina +113 to win the division is a stronger play as it is a sneaky way to play Carolina on the moneyline with a 60 cent edge.

It's certainly factored into the closing line, but it's rarely factored into the opening line a week before. In the past, if there was potential for bad weather, the information would start getting betting action on Thursdays. Now, many try not to bet on the weather until Wednesdays because many places wait until then to put the total lines up. If you have weather info and can get down early, you have an advantage playing on Mondays. Because the market is so volatile and small that early in the week, some sharp syndicates will bet over early in the week to manipulate the line and hope it doesn't get bet back down before there is a larger market to play later in the week.
