20 bare SSDs get their firmware in a single pass on one Shenzhen bench.

No case. No label. No brand yet.

Just a controller, 4 NAND chips and a gold SATA edge.

A worker in a blue smock and yellow finger cots clips each board into a green adapter. The red light means the mass-production tool is working. It flashes firmware, scans every block of flash and decides how big this drive is allowed to be.

The screen goes green. QC PASS.

That's the moment a circuit board becomes a product.

Stronger chips make a 1TB drive. Weaker chips make a 512GB drive. Software sorts them, and nobody solders a thing.

A 27-year-old in Kraków figured out what that moment is worth.

He used to fix laptops for an office park for $1,100 a month.

In 2024 he emailed 9 factories in Shenzhen. 3 answered. 1 agreed to flash his logo into the firmware on a 500-unit order.

$34 per 1TB drive. $2 for the aluminum shell and sticker. $3 to ship.

He sells them on Allegro for 279 zł, about $70.

Month 1: 140 drives.
Month 6: 900.
Month 14: 2,300, mostly to gamers and repair shops that buy 20 at a time.
That's $31 a drive and roughly $71K a month before fees and ads.
His return rate is 0.8%. The bench in Shenzhen catches the rest.

He has never held a soldering iron.

He owns a trademark, 1 listing and a password to a Chinese tool that writes his name into a chip.

He doesn't make drives. He buys the second the screen turns green.
