“It is always easiest to run with the HERD; at times, it can take a DEEP RESERVOIR OF COURAGE AND CONVICTION to stand apart from it. Yet distancing yourself from the crowd is an essential component of long-term investment success.”
— Seth Klarman
They met in college.
Love at first sight.
Both families agreed.
The wedding was beautiful.
He worked in finance.
She worked in marketing.
Two salaries.
One dream.
Then life happened.
Year two of marriage.
EMI on the flat.
EMI on the car.
Office pressure on both sides.
Coming home tired.
Eating in silence.
Sleeping with phones.
The promised love didn't just end.
It evaporated.
That's when he appeared.
A colleague.
A "good listener."
He asked the right questions.
She gave honest answers.
For the first time in months, she felt heard.
He said: "You should speak to someone."
He even had a name.
A number.
The counsellor listened for 40 minutes.
Then delivered her verdict.
"You deserve so much better than this."
No reconciliation discussed.
No communication tools suggested.
Just: you deserve better.
Then came the twist nobody sees coming.
The counsellor handed her a card.
"She's a very good advocate.
She helped me too."
The advocate heard 10 minutes of the story.
Did not ask for the husband's version.
Looked up and said:
"You have a very strong case."
Then added: "You should be independent now."
Independent.
That word landed like a bomb.
498A was filed the next week.
Cruelty.
Dowry harassment.
Cognizable.
Non-bailable.
He was home on a Tuesday evening.
Police knocked.
He didn't understand what was happening.
NCRB data tells the rest.
1 Lakh+ such cases per year.
Conviction rate: 13%.
He hired an advocate too.
And after 3 years of case in the court he said:
"Brother, let's just settle.
This will drag forever."
The settlement ran into crores.
Monthly maintenance: lakhs per month.
She was employed.
Earning well.
The judge granted it anyway.
Both advocates shook hands after.
Now zoom out.
The office friend who "listened."
The counsellor who "cared."
The wife's advocate who "fought."
The husband's advocate who "helped."
The judge who "decided."
Different designations.
One direction.
One wallet.
The husband's.
This is not a coincidence.
This is a supply chain.
Entry point: emotional vulnerability.
Product: manufactured conflict.
Raw material: a struggling marriage.
Output: extracted wealth.
No laws broken.
Everything perfectly legal.
This industry runs at an estimated Rs. 10,000 crore annually.
Across every metro.
Every tier-2 city.
Targeting educated, dual-income urban couples.
The constitution lists victims.
The husband is not among them.
That word.
Deliberately absent.
He will work for the next 20 years.
Not for his dream.
For a settlement he signed.
Under a system that never once asked his side.
When will we stop assuming the man is guilty before he speaks?
PS: This post is not against divorce.
This is against the industry built around it.
Political leaders, Prime Ministers, and Chief Ministers need not be domain experts. They have the mandate from the people to govern.
Technocrats advising leaders should be the cream of domain experts in the country.
The Prime Minister's Economic Advisor, Shamika Ravi has said:
"Freebies are hopefully increasing productivity of India."
Forget economics. This doesn't even meet the yardstick of common sense.
It's a cause of concern that with this kind of knowledge, people are advising the government on how to manage the economy.
She is sounding more and more political, a trait that needs to be completely avoided by technocrats.
Charlie Munger explains Private Equity and Investment Bankers with an example of a dumb Horse 😂
“Man goes to a Vet complaining about his horse who gets vicious sometimes. The Vet replies: The next time horse behaves well…sell it.”
“That’s how private equity works.”
“I would remove Capital Gains tax completely if I was being made Finance Minister of India for one day.”
“We say ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ in India and we require FIIs money, so we should follow global countries like USA, China in taxation.”
- Ramdeo Agarwal. May 2026
Google which is cash surplus, just announced an additional capital raise of $80 bn.
Google annual profit is $160 bn, last quarter $62 bn, and market cap $4.5 trillion. That is close to total profits and market cap of all Indian listed companies put together.
It’s a wake up call to all companies to invest into the future, whatever the present maybe.
Now that IPL is done and dusted, time for India to focus on business of business.
Hindustan Unilever – 0 return for 6 years
HDFC Bank – 0 return for 5 years
Kotak Bank – 0 return for 5 years
Asian Paints – 0 return for 5 years
Infosys – 0 return for 6 years
TCS – 0 return for 6 years
ITC – 0 return for 4 years
Reliance – 0 return for 4 years
What’s the lesson here?
My daughter was born in 2023. My wife & I debated investing in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)
We ended the conversation in 2 mins. And, decided to put 100K in Google. That's it.
100 units in SSY= became 135
100 units in Google= became 390
That's 8.3X more returns.
But, wait: SSY gives returns in INR, google gives returns in USD. So let's adjust for that as well.
100 units in Google = became 450 (INR-adjusted). That's ~10x more returns.
Some will say: oh the risk is high. Yes, absolutely.
When you lock money for 21 years trusting the government, that's the highest unit of risk you're taking.
🚨 China attracts investors with lower taxes.
India punishes investors with higher taxes. 👀
🇮🇳 INDIA
• STCG Tax → 20%
• LTCG Tax → 12.5%
• STT on every trade
• Extra charges & brokerage
🇨🇳 CHINA
• 0% capital gains tax for many retail investors
• Lower transaction costs
Result? 👇
Global money is slowly looking at China again while Indian investors keep paying higher taxes on every profitable trade.
A market grows when investing becomes attractive.
Not when every investor feels like they are trading for the government first and themselves later. 📉📊
Genuine wealth creation by people is what make a society progress. Success through right means should not be vilified. It needs to be celebrated.
Wealth creation through corrupt means corrode the progress of the entire society. Those people need to be punished and wealth confiscated.
When you go to a place in say a Mercedes Benz, you get better treatment and respect. Enjoy the treatment. But if you are wise, you would realise that the respect is for Benz and not for you.
This is getting hilarious day by day
PM Modi at 5:00 PM: “Please use the metro and save fuel.”
Exactly 36 hours later: Absolute cinema on the streets of Bihar 😭
Common people are not the ones wasting fuel. They are struggling just to survive.
It’s politicians who waste fuel with hundreds of cars in election rallies & long VIP convoys.
Time to end this entire VIP culture !
