"I go step-by-step. Sounds, letters, words, sentences, paragraphs...
You're just guessing and you want kids to guess, too.
Well, I'm not sending my kids to hell behind this foolishness."
And she walked out.
Long live Mrs. Dorothy Shanks
I want to hear from all the #teachers whose districts have made the shift away from @LucyCalkins and @FountasPinnell. How did it happen? Grassroots teacher led? Parent led? Top down? What is in place now? Help me connect with districts by retweeting!
The LETRS course needs to be turned into units for initial teacher education at every university. This is the depth of knowledge needed to teach reading. My recent ITE experience confirms exactly why we are SO underprepared to effectively teach reading and writing and I’m angry.
@steviefrank23 @annkozma723 @Flipgrid Thankful mom of a S with dyslexia! ♥️UDL training & giving options to all Ss while giving access to those who may not have it otherwise! Normalizing options so Ss don’t have to worry about feeling different when using accommodations. So glad to see this!
More to come but honoring my friend William Van Cleave this morning & always with a collection of his work.
A good way to spend your weekend my friends learning from this amazing human &gifted teacher! https://t.co/FfqWdTw3ra @wevancleave @MsKurto@janhasbrouck@Amy_Siracusano
THIS is why I am all in for @reading_league !! Their symposium on Feb. 3 is packed with practical information for educators with some of the greats in the field... and is only $20!!! Sessions will be recorded and available to watch at your own pace! https://t.co/tHVZ7ZMxor
"If 38% is our national proficiency rate and it’s (roughly) the percent of students who learn to read without much effort, we really have to ask ourselves, 'What’s the impact of our effort?!' District leaders discuss changing reading instruction. https://t.co/GWetRaD6dk
Here's Steve Dykstra on @LucyCalkins and her staff at @TCRWP. She has spent an entire lifetime being wrong about how children learn to read.
She has caused a lot a grief to children and their families. https://t.co/0d1NSkhY6K
