@JCherryGEL@GoodStartel@4corners A story that is playing out in #Earlyed services across the country What is actions are being taken to address this critical shortage now
Heart wretching story by @GoodStartel Griffith CD Melissa Vitucci on @4corners last night about the impact of staff shortages. No ECT for over 400 days meaning 85 families unable to get care. This has to be addressed. From the 29 minute mark. https://t.co/5tKMMG9bod
The current early learning and childcare system is not working for educators, and it’s not working for children. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Join @JayWeatherill and the #thrivebyfive campaign - the time is now! https://t.co/hAcHWKRnbV #auspol#ECEC
"Australia has the potential to create a system in which EVERY family has access to the best parenting advice & early learning centres, staffed by highly-trained specialists.
That is what a world-class early childhood learning system in Australia should be." - @JayWeatherill

BREAKING: The Morrison Government has voted against Labor’s amendment that would mean parents are not charged gap fees for child care they cant access during a lockdown.
Showing yet again this government is not on the side of families #auspol
@BigStepsUWU Educators are giving their all every minute of every day They are suffocating in workplaces that deprive them of the supports they need to do well It's unrealistic to expect them to provide quality environments for children when we can't provide the basic supports #Educators need
@CCC_Vic @janenhunt@TheFrontProject Sophisticated robust & vital aptly describes the #ozearlyed framework However concerns raised about affordability access profiteering workforce shortages and poor practices are equally valid Addressing these issues can only build on the foundations and improve the framework
@TheFrontProject Many educators are at breaking point. They are micro managed to the point they have no capacity for advocacy dependent on employment They are expected to deliver quality programs in environments that where they are undervalued understaffed and under resourced They need support
Rising costs and access is only part of the problem Educators & children are commodities in what is becoming institutionalised care Increasing subsidies may make #earlyed more affordable but will it improve working conditions for educators or quality outcomes for children?
The system exploits #children & #educators They are commodities in big business places are resold children & educators are pawns being pushed back & forth between rooms babies & toddlers corralled in groups of 20 sometimes more to maximise profits by some unscrupulous providers
@hicks_tamika @the_parenthood@AEUfederal@BigStepsUWU More services are offering above award and increased benefits to retain ECTs and Educators The status cannot be replicated until working in the #earlyyears is valued & recognised
@LisaJBryant@AECWPB It's not a state thing it is more an owner operator thing Some for greed others for survival in a highly competitive sector parents children and educators are all at the mercy of a broken system
@doreen_blyth@LisaJBryant Agree completely homelike environments are a home away from home consider both the children & adults in their spaces When children feel safe & secure learning & explanation occurs Too often environments replicate classrooms & feel more institutional than warm safe or nurturing
@Vukfutures @erinrileyau @kymtje Ratios aren't low enough. Ask any Parent of an infant if they could provide the same care and attention to 4 infants as they can with one? Absolutely not! Our littles need 1:1 Educators do their best to give every child as much care & attention & undertake numerous other tasks
@JayWeatherill What does it say about the quality of training undertaken by educators when provide physical care and promote physical activity are key performance criteria for the Cert III and Diploma
