@admathium @mathspeptalk I’ve moved from ‘teach as deep as you can in the time given’ for a topic to ‘test what they know, build medium term planning around this’, it feels like a better deal for students and the info gained at the start tells you where challenge and support are more needed

Do any maths departments do a pre-assessment before each unit? What are the pitfalls / things to consider if switching to this model?

@admathium @mathspeptalk I’d like the test to be one Q on each of c.10 skills, those that are answered relatively well are tested more in starter activities and the rest are taught more fully across lessons. I don’t want just skills taught but understanding of concepts built towards solving problems.
