@MrMattock Thanks, I appreciate your help and you taking the time. There seems to be a prevailing attitude that because I’m paid the money then it’s all my job to do from some members of the department, so helps to have some perspective.
I need some advice please! I’m in a position where we are dealing with long term cover in the dept. Last year used agency staff to cover these periods, but all ad hoc this year, not consistent. How do others deal with this? RT appreciated @mathsjem@missradders@MrMattock
Been asked to share this post from a local team. The club brings a lot of kids joy but funding is so tight right now, as I’m sure you can imagine and are experiencing. Any little bit at all would help massively

3. @WRMathsSec for curriculum materials and CPD to help us move towards a Mastery type approach
4. No marking in books, feedback given immediately and on a whole class basis where possible
We are on a journey but it feels like an exciting one!
This year our department are on a mission to reduce workload and develop ourselves as practitioners.
We’ve invested in:
1. @SparxMaths for Home Learning in KS3 and 4
2. @DrFrostMaths for Home Learning and Assessments in KS5
1/n
I know this is all just shouting into a void mainly, but I do believe there is a need for firm rules and consequences, and within this there can sit an approach where relationships are built and strengthened because of this. In a caring way. Not one or the other!
It seems to me that there is a lot of time invested by a few people in education who attempt to make every issue a polarising one. I don’t for a second believe that people like @tombennett71 don’t care about the individual like it’s made out.
I think they would always want to get to the point where any trauma was dealt with and helped, but they also acknowledge that sometimes people do stupid things and that they want to mess around and impress friends. Adults do it, just look next time you have INSET!
@missradders@LearningMaths@mathsjem @ChrisMcGrane84 Thanks so much, especially put on the spot! Agree with all of that, I think that articulation aspect is the one where we are probably weakest at the minute, with engagement a bit variable at times too.
Good evening Maths Twitter! I’m doing an exercise with my department tomorrow about what a good lesson and good learning look like, and was wondering what that looked like to everyone on here? @LearningMaths@missradders@mathsjem @ChrisMcGrane84 RTs much appreciated!
@ChrisMcGrane84 @LearningMaths@missradders@mathsjem I really like this Chris, thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. Some really good questions that make you think about what you’re doing and how that looks.
I will be picking a school to receive 16 free student delegate places at your setting for the OFQUAL Youth Mental Health First Aid Qualification. One day course. Age 14+ only.
To enter, just follow, retweet and like this post. I will announce winning school on 28th March at 8pm.
I’d be delighted to answer any questions anyone has, please feel free to DM me, you’ll get honesty above all else, no fairytale pictures or false impressions. Really looking for someone who cares about students understanding Maths and who wants to develop.
Just sharing this so people can see more easily the job that we have in our lovely Maths department for September or sooner. High value placed on development in the school, large focus on reducing workload. Chance to really make a difference https://t.co/PVbBp5RXLM
