This year's DTP conference kicks off today with a transfer talk from @GeneralShane97 on Developing a metallogenic model for Caledonian mineralisation around Loch Tay, Scotland
This is work that took place as part of my PhD @UK_CEH, @UniversityLeeds@LeedsYorkDTP working with @JMBecologist & @BillKunin.
The talk includes work on habitat association:

and on fragmentation per se:

Soooo pleased to see @LReesHughes first PhD paper published this week, as part of the @LeedsYorkDTP. Fully open access. Thread 👇 below for links and cool images. I’ve learnt a huge amount about GPR through working with Luis and the team 🙏 #LeedsQuaternary
However, Maeve's #PhDHighlight so far has been seeing her own progression, particularly developing her skills and gaining confidence in her own abilities. She also values the fun, supportive research groups (such as @RFluids) she has become a part of. 5/5
Maeve enjoys her research, but sometimes struggles with imposter syndrome, particularly feeling that by representing a minority in the room (which for her, sometimes lacks gender balance), your contributions can be under more scrutiny or used to form stereotypes about others. 4/5
When not researching, Maeve enjoys walking, drawing and creative writing, and loves swimming in the sea, regardless of the time of year! She also enjoys science communication and outreach, which she is considering as a long-term career path. 3/5
Maeve loves space science and planets, and applied for PhD studentships in the hope of being able to continue her studies despite not being able to afford a masters course. She believed her chances were slim, but succeeded in securing a place on the @LeedsYorkDTP program. 2/5

Maeve Murphy Quinlan (@thisismaeveq) is a third year @LeedsYorkDTP PhD student at @IGTLeeds, @SEELeeds. She is a planetary scientist, using the results from lab analysis of meteorites to develop models of the interiors of planetesimals. 1/5
📢 Reminder to register for our webinar on how a PhD can help you in your careers on *Tuesday*!
Particularly aimed at anyone considering doing a PhD, but not sure how it will help a future career in industry or academia

I'll reflect on my work @UK_CEH & @LeedsYorkDTP@UniversityLeeds on November 4th. Tying it back to some of the work/thinking from my time @Forest_Research
Simple to complex species habitat association & possible influences on the effect of habitat fragmentation.

🎉Awesome volunteer leaders decided & planned BiG themes. To count down to #BiGWeek, we will introduce daily theme leads, students & ECRs. Plan to amplify, check their profiles, & extend opportunities that match their talents, skills & interests.🔥
