@NunyaBidneupzu Nowadays no sane person believes that russia is powerful, so this strategy won't work anymore.
The constant escalation will have to find an outlet. That is why at this point, if russia won't collapse from other means, the open conflict between russia and NATO is inevitable.

@NunyaBidneupzu Before Ukraine everyone believed that russia is powerful. Back then no one wanted to "poke the bear", and so the strategy worked. Now they are still using the same strategy, "testing" eastern flank NATO countries resolve everyday.

@NunyaBidneupzu Escalation fuels a war-based economy and keeps people occupied (creates jobs, diverts attention from domestic problems, and unites society under the flag). It also serves as an effective deterrent. Russia has employed a strategy of “de-escalation through escalation” in the past.

They can’t admit that they lost to Ukraine. That would spell the end of many people’s political careers.
Losing to NATO as a whole is a completely different story. It would be a convenient way for russian leadership to save face and possibly stay in power.

Nie wierzę natomiast, że tak całkiem olał byś tego kalibru oskarżenia, gdyby padły wobec twojej osoby.
Dziś brak reakcji jest często rozumiany jako przyznanie racji oskarżycielowi.

@Wakidesignz I agree with most of what you wrote. However, I believe that the current government will demand at least symbolic concessions from Ukraine, precisely to avoid giving its opposition any ammunition.
Either way, the ball is now in Ukraine’s court, and it’s of their own making.
