The next 18-24 months are going to be the most impactful, transformative, and significant in Legaltech and legal services. A few thoughts:
1. Big battle on the tech stack for biglaw. This will be a category defining time and the battle will be fierce amongst general purpose AI and legal AI with potential surprises gaining more ground .
2. The in-house stack is up for grabs with an unclear leader right now but this category will converge significantly by current players that are adapting and new players that are coming in strong and morphing (and making big assumptions about lawyers and future behaviors). Different value drivers with workflow depth and expertise will be key.
3. Neo AI-native law firms are going to gradually gain ground and smart, brave, innovative biglaw players adapting and experimenting will fight back (and evolve).
4. The “value stack”
delivered by lawyers (and what constitutes “value”) will change significantly (together with the value tech stack) and those who adapt and upskill in their ability to work with AI whilst also focusing on maintaining depth, expertise, and critical review and thinking skills will thrive and separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
5. The tech stack for solo and small firms will change significantly with new and different general purpose AI tools and others gaining traction and moving up market.
6. We are going to see major consolidations across tech and service stacks, and tech players morphing into hybrid tech and legal services companies.
7. In these crazy times anything is possible and everything is up for grabs and change. We’re going to see many curve balls driven by big bets, market dynamics, and surface wars.
I can’t think of a more significant time for the legal industry. Honestly. Everything is up for grabs. It’s going to be a wild ride.

A lawsuit accusing https://t.co/fhvls59PVw of using recordings of private meetings to train its technology, as well as the increasing use of transcription tools, has spurred law firms and clients to think more critically about the AI services they use. “It's the tip of the iceberg. It is the thing that I'm getting the most client questions about, the most partner questions about,” Brooks Pierce associate Graham Dean told Legaltech News. “It's forced a lot of clients to think critically about how they're using AI, and now with Copilot being built in Microsoft Office and all that, the conversations are getting more complex, but I feel like it lit the fire of conversation around AI for a lot of smaller, mid-size businesses that hadn't really wrestled with it yet.” https://t.co/xqiRZMw6yV
