🔎 INFORMATION SOUGHT 🔍

The CPS Arson Unit is working with the Calgary Fire Department to investigate multiple suspicious fires that occurred overnight in the southeast community of Riverbend.

📍 At approx. 12:40 a.m., today, Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, we were called for reports of a fire at a residence in the 100 block of Riverglen Crescent S.E. Upon arrival, our officers determined the fire had destroyed a garage & caused damage to 2 residences. No injuries were reported.

Investigators believe there were 2 additional nuisance fires set to recycling bins in the back alley of the 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E. & the 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E. One of the fires was believed to have been set around 11:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 & the other is believed to have been set around the same time as the residential fire.

While it is not believed the smaller fires led to any property damage or injuries, the possibility of the 3 fires being connected is being investigated.

📣 At this time, investigators are asking the public to come forward with information about these incidents. Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the Riverbend area, or who believes they saw something suspicious, is asked to contact police.

Investigators are specifically looking for footage of individuals in the area who may have been travelling by foot or by bicycle from 10 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, to 6 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, in the areas of:

📍 The 100 block of Riverglen Crescent S.E.
📍 The 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E.
📍 The 100 block of River Valley Crescent S.E.

📣 Investigators are also asking for footage from homes with a view of 18 Street S.E. between Glenmore Trail S.E. & Riverview Close S.E.

@cmcalgary There's a large number of transit detours as a result with no solution in place... short term is one thing but it leaves 1 Street from 10 ave to 5 ave unserviced by several routes which is getting very frustrating.
