🚨I did a science!🚨 I was lucky enough to help write a chapter on "Viruses" for this monograph on the lung microbiome along with @MarthaClokie and Will Flight. So have a look, there is some phagey-ness inside 😃
We have a BBSRC post doc position available https://t.co/U5fs3ITNsb following on from our characterisation of a novel copper resistance mechanism (CopB/X CopL) associated with the SCCmec in S. aureus USA300. 10.1111/1462-2920.14088
Our manuscript looking at the contribution of the Alkylquinolone Quorum-Sensing system to the interaction of P. aeruginosa with Bronchial Epithelial Cells is out now. Good times!! Very proud of this work. @miguelcamarauk@UoNresearch@UoNLifeSci https://t.co/Z5aZoMjN7z
Technician job in my lab! Looking for temp, p/t support to help my team to push a project to completion in Jan-Mar. Could be ideal for someone waiting for a PhD viva, or an existing p/t tech who wants some extra hours n the new year: https://t.co/5VfWidtJUL
PhD opportunity at Leicester-MRC Harwell-Nottingham. Look out for our project together with Chris Bayliss and Derek Hood on "Impact of hypermutable sequences on microbial elucitation and evasion of host immune responses". https://t.co/mRgSPW5hwU
A new paper from our group describes a new #vaccine strategy against #pneumococcus. A genetically enginerened E. coli strain was used to both produce and conjugate carrier proteins and glycan. The formulated vaccine resulted to be protective both against pneumonia and meningitis.
The pneumococcal surface proteins PspA and PspC sequester host C4 binding protein to inactivate complement C4b on the bacterial surface https://t.co/oxvfjFp50J
Paper from the Bayliss group - 'PhasomeIt: an 'omics' approach to cataloguing the potential breadth of phase variation in the genus Campylobacter' out in #MGen@MicrobioSoc@Joewanford@Neisseriaspanin@JackAidley . Great collaboration with @sheppard_lab - https://t.co/mZwf68mnln
Now available as a full article! An investigation of how the phase variable tract of nadA could be used as a surrogate for prediction of Bexsero coverage, looks pretty good too #mrf#meningitis https://t.co/D4NHRmBHLG
If you are interested in bacterial infections and replacement of lab animal experimentation #3Rs, have a look at our innovative ex vivo model of bacterial sepsis using pig spleens retrieved from the abattoir @Joewanford@mr_oggioni#pneumococcus#sepsis https://t.co/3LnAJ1uw1C
Great model from @peppeercoli and co, for the translation of pneumococcal research in mice to a human-like system, and also the reduction of exp animals in sepsis research! Out in #preprint in ALTEX - https://t.co/UE3hSdeP6f @NC3Rs@jhucaat#sepsis#pneumococcus#pathogenesis

Just out - 'Integrase-Controlled Excision of Metal-Resistance Genomic Islands in Acinetobacter baumannii' from the Oggioni group! Congrats Zaaima and co #AMR https://t.co/PKX5Za21qV
Congratulations to Zaaima for this great paper looking at how integrase activity excises much larger sections of DNA from genomic islands than previously thought! So pleased to have been able to contribute to this work https://t.co/kmMpDOsLgp
Researchers at @Leicester_Micro and @M_R_F have developed a new test to find out if meningitis infection could have been prevented by vaccination: https://t.co/0RylYcBHYV
