@drwill20 Same goes for Polley tbh. Fair to reserve judgment but enough of those 'live-action' remakes exist by now to know how it's going to turn out.
@drwill20 Point is she already made her studio transition and everybody cheered. And yes about the kind of work but a toy ad with 'vision' is still an ad. But I agree she's the wrong figure. She never pretended she was committed to original ideas.
@drwill20 In any case her studio-mandated Little Women met with zero friction (despite showing little difference in vision from the ‘94 version) so if anything, GG has had an easier reception than most. The bias has been in her favour. This toy advert is just something else entirely.
@drwill20 There was of course a benefit of the doubt situation because his original work had established enough of a distinct voice but there was plenty criticism levelled his way for “selling out” to a big studio back then. Doubly so for being a Brit “selling out” to America.
@drwill20 It's the only one of these multiverse things worth its existence tbh. And that includes everything from No Way Home to that culture-killing sausage finger movie.
The problem with taking license to re-edit classic works is that there is no limiting principle. You start out wanting to replace a word here and a word there, and end up inserting entirely new ideas (as has been done to Dahl's work). 6/13
