«أنتِ مو ضيفة عشان تجلسين، قومي ساعدي.»
بالبداية كانت عادي تساعد في الطبخ وتغسل الصحون وتسوي اللي تقدر عليه.
لكن في يوم، قدام الأقارب، أم زوجها قالت وهي تضحك:
«هذي ما تعرف لشغل البيت، ولدي متعب معها.»
صديقتي وقتها ضحكت وعدّت الموضوع.
My friend’s neighbour gave birth last month, and honestly, the naming ceremony gist is still making me laugh.
Apparently, when the woman came back from the hospital, her mother-in-law was the first person to carry the baby. She looked at the baby for about two minutes and suddenly said, “This child doesn’t look like anybody in this family.”
Everybody laughed.
The husband told her, “Mummy, leave that thing. All babies look alike.”
She kept quiet.
Two days later, she went to visit the woman again. This time, she asked to see the baby’s hospital card.
The woman asked, “Why?”
She said, “I just want to check something.”
Omo.
The woman refused.
That was when the mother-in-law told her, “Bring the baby. Let’s go back to that hospital.”
Apparently, something happened the night she gave birth that nobody had noticed.
Two babies had been delivered within minutes of each other.
And the hospital had called the family that morning.
Not because of the baby.
Because of the mother.
Every morning, my boyfriend deleted exactly one message. Not all his messages. Just one. I noticed because he always did it while drinking coffee.
Delete. Lock phone. Put it away. I asked him once. He said, “Spam.” So I stopped asking.
Until yesterday. He left his phone on the kitchen counter. At 8:03 AM, it buzzed. A message appeared.
“You forgot to delete yesterday’s.”
I stared at it. Then another message came.
“She knows.”
I picked up the phone. The sender was saved as:
ME.
I opened the conversation. There were hundreds of messages. All from me.
But I had never sent them. The first one said:
A woman in my area invited her widowed mother over for omugwo.
Three years later, her mother was still living with them.
Her husband complained several times.
She always replied,
“Are you chasing my mother because she has nobody else?”
He stopped talking about it.
Stopped providing.
Filed for a transfer at work.
And relocated alone. 👀
Over the next few days, the lawyer worked with the court to correct the records before any judgments or notices were sent to the wrong person.
It took a few signed statements and proof of identity, but everything was sorted out.
Before hanging up for the last time, the lawyer said,
"You did the right thing by calling back."
My dad laughed.
"I almost deleted your voicemail."
Now, whenever an unfamiliar number leaves a message, he listens to it before deciding it's spam.
Almighty God,
Thank You for the gift of this new day. Lord, we honor and acknowledge You as the source of our lives, our peace, and our provision.
As we step into today, we invite You to go before us. Order our steps, guard our thoughts, and align our decisions with Your will. Where there is uncertainty, give us wisdom. Where there is pressure, give us calm. Where there is weakness, release Your strength.
Lord, help us to work diligently, speak graciously, and act with integrity. Let our efforts be fruitful not because of our own power, but because Your hand is upon us. Protect us from all harm and keep us under Your covering.
We declare that today we walk in favor, clarity, and divine guidance. Our work is blessed, our paths are directed, and our efforts will not be in vain,
because we are led by God.
Lord, we trust in You completely.
In Jesus’ name, we pray
