Abiy's claim that #Eritrea had 300 manufacturing plants in 1991 is not only misleading but also entirely a lie.
Where did Abiy get the figure of 300 factories? As the Prime Minister of #Ethiopia, he has a responsibility to provide accurate information rather than making misleading statements. Is it truly necessary to spread lies to gain public support, or does this indicate a lack of understanding?
During Italian colonisation from 1889 to 1941, numerous factories were established in #Eritrea. However, after the British military withdrew, they dismantled most of these facilities, including the cable networks connecting #Massawa and #Asmara, and relocated them primarily to India and elsewhere.
Furthermore, during the annexation from 1962 to 1991 and the subsequent "Federation" period imposed by Haile Selassie, the remaining factories were also dismantled. This included several textile and iron production facilities, all of which were transferred to Ethiopia.
This marks a significant chapter in #Eritrean history, well documented in various books available in British libraries, #Eritrea, and around the world.

1st, Mohammed Keir Omar lives in diaspora, not inside the country
2nd, Mohammed Keir Omar has 0 connections with any government official. His information is 100% out of reality on the ground
3rd, Mohammed Keir Omar (former history dean at the UoA) has never been to Eritrea for 20 more years.
4rth, you retweeted his false information without any sort of confirmation or double checking
5th, if you know me…. you would never have argued with me at all. My information is out of your league.
Welcomed @UN based journliasts, Alexey Alekseev of RIA Novosti, Celhia de Lavarene of Africa Confidential, and Matsumoto Yasuji of Kyodo News to @Eritrea_UN.
Briefed them on #Eritrea’s priorities for the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly (#UNGA81), as well as recent political and security developments in the #Horn of #Africa.
The discussions provided an opportunity to articulate #Eritrea|s perspectives on regional peace and security, the imperative of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the growing concerns arising from #Ethiopia|s sustained rhetoric and campaign concerning the #RedSea, including threats against #Eritrea’s sovereign territory.
The engagement also underscored the importance of examining developments in the #Horn within their broader political and security context, including the internal challenges confronting #Ethiopia and their implications for regional stability.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of diligent, independent fact-finding and critical scrutiny of the deluge of information, commentary, and competing narratives circulating in cyberspace.
The journalists were encouraged to look beyond prevailing narratives, verify claims against credible evidence and primary sources, and resist the temptation to reproduce unsubstantiated allegations or politically motivated messaging.
Stressed the need for accurate and responsible reporting to ensure that international assessments and policy responses are grounded in facts rather than misleading narratives or political assumptions.
Failure to establish the facts can obscure the real sources of tension, encourage miscalculations, and lead to skewed policy choices with potentially serious consequences for regional peace and security.
The breakfast meeting provided an opportunity to communicate #Eritrea|s positions to media outlets with distinct regional and international audiences, contributing to a more informed understanding of #Eritrea’s priorities and its assessment of the situation in the #Horn region...
Such engagments with @UN jouranlist will continue...
Will the UNSC and the AU Rein in Ethiopian’s Expansionism and Aggression?
by Adulis Tewolde
*...Today, the Horn of Africa confronts another dangerous juncture. The current Ethiopian ruling party has explicitly framed 'sovereign access to the sea' as a 'strategic imperative', that must be 'ascertained through negotiations if possible and by force if necessary'. Ethiopia’s intensive and provocative pronouncements conducted for over three years now as well as associated acts are indeed tantamount to a declaration of war. And finally, on 9 October this month, Ethiopia formally notified the UN Security Council that it has declared war against Eritrea under the preposterous allegations of 'Eritrea’s invasion''.
*"...Both the UN and the AU are intergovernmental organizations designed to reflect the collective position of their member states. In this context, it is imperative that these institutions uphold, without any equivocation, the fundamental pillars of the UN Charter and the AU’s Constitutive Act on the full respect of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of all Member States. Indeed, respect for these principles is sine qua non for peaceful relations between States".
*"...Eritrea has already paid a heavy price for the international community’s past failures. Its long struggle for independence and its insistence on the implementation of the EEBC decisions underscore the importance of defending sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes".
*"The question now is whether the institutions established to safeguard international peace and security will fulfill their responsibilities. Will the Security Council, the African Union, and the wider international community rein in Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party expansionist ambitions and deter aggression? Or will the defense of the UN Charter’s most fundamental principles once again be left to Eritrea alone, with all the catastrophic costs that such a failure entails".

Building Artificial Intelligence Capabilities for Eritrea’s Development: Reflections from UN Day 2026; by Mussie Efriem
"The high-level dialogue in Asmara offered an opportunity to examine Artificial Intelligence in relation to Eritrea’s development priorities, emphasizing the importance of capability-building, relevance to the local context and responsible engagement. Its central themes extended beyond the adoption of new technologies to include education, research, connectivity, data quality, institutional readiness and collaboration. These considerations are essential to determining where AI can make a meaningful contribution and how its potential can be explored without losing sight of the needs it is intended to serve".

When a nation is built on sacrifice, its spirit cannot be conquered. The story of #Eritrea is forged in the courage of its leadership, the resilience of its army, and the unwavering determination of its people. Through 30 years of liberation struggle, unity turned sacrifice into victory and determination into independence. From the battlefields to the defense of national sovereignty, Eritrea’s enduring strength lies in the bond between leadership, army, and people. United in purpose, unbroken in spirit, unwavering in defending their destiny. 🇪🇷 #EritreaPrevails #DefendEritrea
Had constructive engagements with H.E. Mike Waltz, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, and Ambassador Jeffrey Bartos, U.S. Representative to the UN for Management and Reform.
Discussed recent developments in the #Horn of #Africa and presented #Eritrea’s perspective on the evolving regional situation. Reiterated that there is no "crisis" between #Eritrea and #Ethiopia, and underscored the need for the international community to pay closer attention to the worrisome developments within #Ethiopia. The most important issue is for #Ethiopia to respect #Eritrea's sovereign territories and stop diverting attention from its domestic issues.
Outlined #Ethiopia|s three-year-long campaign concerning the Red Sea and its continued threats against #Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including threats to annex sovereign #Eritrean territories. Urged those with leverage to use it responsibly and proactively, to prevent unnecessary wars in the region. To refrain from making statments that embolden #Ethiopia's leadership.
Also briefed them on #Ethiopia’s expulsion of #Eritrea’s representatives accredited to the @_AfricanUnion Union and the @UN Economic Commission for #Africa, as well as the breakdown of diplomatic relations initiated by #Ethiopia and reciprocated by #Eritrea.
#Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected. Preventing renewed conflict requires addressing the underlying threats, upholding international law, and acting before issues escalate...
@AbiyAhmedAli The Chameleon who Changes colors shifting positions & changes the lies to suit the his political agenda. But history has a long memory & actions speak louder than words. #Eritrea’s sovereignty is not negotiable. No political maneuver can change that. #Ethiopian
#Eritrea is at peace. It seeks no war, no confrontation & no destabilization in our region. Our people in East #Africa are saying “enough is enough”. And yet, war entrepreneurs like @KjetilTronvoll are fabricating complete false information in order to escalate the already tense situation in our region. Doing dirt of @AbiyAhmedAli’s wicked agenda of violating sovereign nations at the expense of millions of people is a crime at the highest level.
All media outlets shall refrain from spreading false information & I encourage to dissociate from people like Kjetil.

Mengistu believed his enormous Soviet-equipped army could preserve his rule. In 1991, that illusion collapsed.
Is Abiy Ahmed repeating the same fatal mistake?
Imported drones, tanks and foreign military support cannot substitute for political legitimacy or national unity.
History offers a warning. Will Abiy heed it?

Reading from a teleprompter on Ethiopia's TV yesterday, the Potemkin Party's Prime Minister disparages Eritrea's economic development, and particularly its manufacturing sector, as "stagnant and in decline" since its independence in 1991.
The speech/interview was also laced with his three-year old threats of war of aggression and invasion unless Eritrea succumbs to his delusional projects of "sovereign access to the sea" and "Ethiopian naval presence" in Eritrea's coastal territory; packaged this time round in different pretexts, language, and format.
To revert to his disparaging discourse on Eritrea's economic performance and potential:
1. In the past 35 years, Ethiopia was the beneficiary of a whopping 80-90 billion US dollars of international multilateral and bilateral assistance;
2. Ethiopia went through two rounds of WB sponsored debt-cancellation rounds, as well as repetitive financial bailouts from the IMF and other donors. For almost ten years in -between, Ethiopia's dire humanitarian conditions were alleviated by the international community under a customized "social safety net" and other similar "intensive care" financial antidotes.
3. The current regime itself has received over 30 billion US dollars in international assistance in the last 8 years alone. In addition, its tattering economy is being resuscitated by another IMF bailout programme to the tune of 3.1 billion US dollars.
4. And yet, as the figures below illustrate, more than 68% Ethiopians are living under extreme poverty while close to 30 million people require urgent humanitarian relief assistance at this point in time.
5. In as far as the 300 manufacturing plants that the PP leader alludes to, these were old factories built during Italy's colonization of Eritrea from 1889 until 1941. The British Military Administration dismantled many of those factories - including the dock in Massawa - as "war booty" and sold them to other foreign countries. The occupationist Haile Selassie regime, in its turn, dismantled many of the remaining factories and transferred them to Ethiopia especially during the imposed "Federation" period.
6. After its hard-won independence in 1991, Eritrea registered rapid economic growth in the first seven years (WB reports). Imposed wars and unwarranted sanctions thereafter naturally affected the pace and magnitude of its economic trajectory.
7. These externalities have nothing to do with Eritrea's open investment and economic policies and visions.
8. And in any case, Eritrea has the abundant economic endowments (blue economy, extractive industry, educated and industrious human capital, and a civilized culture that celebrates religious and ethnic diversity within robust national unity) to excel and achieve its aspirations of rapid and sustainable growth in a conducive and enduring regional climate of peace and stability.
9. Finally, Ethiopia itself could do much better, extricate itself from debilitating dependency, and use its abundant resources for real development if its leaders abandon sectarian policies of division and polarization that incubate perennial cycles of internal turmoil as well as intertwined acts of regional destabilization in pursuit of delusional and expansionist projects.
#Ethiopia’s main news agencies such as @fanatelevision and @ebczena are being used day in and day out to intoxicate the population with jingoistic, inflammatory messages about the Red Sea, a glorious and prosperous future through the occupation of Assab Port, the building of a navy, and so on.
Yet these so-called media outlets remain tongue-tied while young men die or lose their eyes and limbs in the country’s major wars. Meanwhile, mothers and families across #Ethiopia are left in the dark, with no information about the fate of their children.
How can the journalists live with themselves! There is no point to come up with a book of regret after the death and destruction of hundreds of thousands of people.
Dear @BislaDiksha, as an advent follower of WION, I felt your recent reporting on the conflict in northern #Ethiopia was completely slanted. Let me break it down;
📍your reporting was 100% reverberated Ethiopia’s government argument while completely negated the argument of the other side. Did you read the other side argument before you decided to jump in for the task?
📍you stated “1000s of #Eritrea troops are in Ethiopia”. My question for you is, do you have proof? or your reporting was completely based on @MFAEthiopia allegations? If you have no proof, then it is “allegations”. Which is nothing is substantiated. And yet, you insinuated as if it is a founded fact.
Again, The Horn of #Africa needs peace. But as a media personality, you have an obligation not to play with innocent people & their lives. Thank you!

A false sense of grandeur rooted in a distorted reading of history—including pride in past occupations instead of remorse and reparations—has set Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party leadership on a dangerous course toward repeating those crimes, with even graver consequences.
