The script has flipped: During the GFC (2009), PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Greece & Spain) which ran the highest deficits now have the highest surpluses!
Whereas the US now runs the highest deficit…
BREAKING: The US government is now running a primary budget deficit of -3.59% of GDP, the largest among major advanced economies.
The primary budget deficit EXCLUDES the $1.1+ trillion in interest payments on existing government debt.
This is followed by the UK at -3.51% of the country’s GDP.
Belgium, France, Austria, and the Euro Area run primary budget deficits of -2.14%, -1.97%, -1.66%, and -1.40%, respectively.
In other words, even excluding the cost of servicing existing debt, which is the 2nd-largest US government expenditure, even larger than defense spending, the US deficit is the biggest relative to GDP among all major advanced economies.
US deficit spending is out of control.
The on-shoring of code and support has begun. The immediate outlook for India is concerning, but a massive counter-opportunity is emerging.
Enterprises need deep expertise to integrate AI into their workflows. This will spark a major new industry of vertical AI companies and specialized consultants.
This is the frontier for Indian IT services - if they can rewire their DNA fast enough. It’s their best shot at preserving revenue, though it would be hard to save low end jobs in India.
I shared this note earlier today with the entire team at Opendoor.
Today we began to say goodbye to our colleagues in India as we wind down our India operations.
Our customers are in America, and that's where our operational work belongs.
More than 5 million people have opened a slice savings account in the past year. All of them earn 100% of the repo rate daily, 5.25% p.a. right now
Today, we’re rolling out slice atom, our newest addition to slice savings account, because savings is much more than expenses 😸
Your savings hold much more than spending money. It's your emergency buffer, your next trip, your goals, your spare change. We are unbundling it for India, so you have full control and clarity over your money
You split your one balance into separate atoms, one for each thing you care about. The money in an atom keeps earning the same 5.25% as the rest of your account. You can take it back the moment you need it, no penalty, and it lands in your main balance within seconds, ready for UPI transactions or a transfer
An atom can fill itself, too. Set it to take in a fixed amount every day, week or month, or to round your spending up to the nearest ₹10 and quietly set the difference aside
Millions of people trust slice with their savings now. People work hard for that money. So the least we can do is keep paying close attention to what they actually need. atom meets one of those needs!
Every time you travel in a Shoffr, your driver has a co-pilot - an AI-powered dashcam from Cautio
Was he on the phone?
Was he on time?
Did he show signs of fatigue?
Did he take the car for a personal ride?
Cautio helps fleet operators answer these questions not with anecdotes, but with video evidence and AI-led driver behavior monitoring.
Cautio is not an “AI wrapper”:
NRIs transferring funds using stablecoin firms, please be careful on FEMA regulations. This seems dangerous for Indian sovereignty and while the companies will change their models eventually, you can still be traced by an agency asking how the dollars came to India without using RBI regulated channels
These firms are using stablecoin rails in the background, so you might not know what’s happening to your money. An easy tell is when a firm gives you market rates without any fee, while earning 4-5% from the stablecoin spread between India and overseas!
Are you approaching your work and life in general like an amateur or a pro? What each really means and how to, if necessary, flip the switch. Steven Pressfield, author of The War of Art, who is still in pro-mode at 82, on the Huberman Lab podcast out now.
Startups die when they lose momentum
But momentum is perishable, so it is bound to reduce with time—unless the founders will it into continued existence
Startups have multiple founding moments, so this job doesn’t rely on just founders but founder-like people who make things happen
Momentum is mass × velocity
Mass is the resources—the people, capital, code, and distribution you can leverage
Velocity is direction × speed
Direction is pure. It comes from the place that stores creativity: you come up with a new idea and a new understanding that the world didn’t know yet
Speed is compounding. Once you have created something, you want to build systems that let you cover the entire distance in that direction before friction stops you
Most failed startups end up missing one or more of these
Startups that do well generally start with the right direction:
They create some new understanding
As a result, they are able to amass resources
They are able to create the right discipline to continue the speed in that direction
But as they become large and satisfied, they too can lose sight of an important reality: the right direction didn’t give them a right to have infinite momentum, it just lent them some time to create new directions
Founder mindset is constantly seeking all that's true and ensuring direction is correct to continue the one and only thing that matters—momentum
Every fat fee in finance is soon dead
Your agent will ruthlessly negotiate better rates while you sleep
The middlemen just don't know it yet
Build accordingly

We asked @tjparker about his new company @generalmedicine.
"Our belief is that you should be able to shop healthcare like you shop everything else."
"If you want lab tests, colonoscopy, or X-rays, just search, fill out forms, and consult with a clinician."
"You can see personalized insurance pricing for any provider before deciding where to get a service."
"The difference in price for my X-ray was $100 in Park City vs. $500 in Salt Lake with the same insurance co."
