👉On July 6, 1785, the Continental Congress officially adopted the dollar as the monetary unit of the United States!

👉But here's what many people don't realize...

👉They didn’t invent a new currency from scratch. They modeled it after the Spanish silver dollar (the famous “Piece of Eight”) — the most trusted and widely circulated coin in the colonies because of its consistent silver content!

👉Seven years later, the Coinage Act of 1792 established the U.S. Mint and formally defined the dollar by a specific weight of silver (while also authorizing gold coins), creating America’s original bimetallic system!

👉From the very beginning, America’s money was rooted in real precious metals — not endless paper promises!
