When our political-media establishment chant "stand with Ukraine", it means boycotting diplomacy and finance the kidnapping of Ukrainian men to use them in a campaign to weaken Russia as a strategic rival. If the majority of Ukrainians had a say, there would not have been a regime change in 2014, the 2015 Minsk agreement would have been implemented, the 2019 peace platform would not have been reversed, the 2022 Istanbul agreement would have been signed, and there would now be negotiations about the pan-European security architecture. However, the US and EU run Ukraine, and men are hunted on the streets to fight to the last Ukrainian in NATO's proxy war.

Are We Not All Immigrants?

Speaking from the Canary Islands on June 12, Pope Leo XIV used the last speech of his one-week Apostolic Journey to Spain to address the highly divisive immigrant issue by reminding the world: “We are speaking, above all, of people created in the image and likeness of God, rather than of legal categories or problems to be managed.” He also chose to “address a message to those who take advantage of people’s desperation, to those who organize death routes, traffic in human beings… Stop. Repent…Free those you hold in bondage… You will have to appear before divine justice.”
Irony would have it that the same day, June 12, the European Union inaugurated a new migrant policy which fully qualifies Brussels to receive the wrath of God. The total opposite of the Pope’s approach, the EU policy is designed to expedite the expulsion of migrants from EU countries immediately upon arrival, and to create “return hubs” in third countries where they can be shipped—including nations such as Syria and Bangladesh. This is nothing different than what Leo’s predecessor, Pope Francis, described as the virtual “concentration camps” for desperate migrants which had been set up in Europe.
Historically, such an approach should come as a shock to Americans—although to many today it will not, to those who have made excuses for the inhuman way migrants are being treated by Trump’s ICE. Recently enough it was proudly stated that the United States of America is a “nation of immigrants,” a “melting pot.” After all, “E pluribus unum”—"Out of many, one”—was the de facto national motto for centuries.
Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, clearly understands this legacy. On May 19, just before traveling to Spain, he sent a Commencement message to the graduating class at Villanova university, his own alma mater. He reminded them that this is the 250th anniversary of the U.S.A. and he invited them “to recall in a special way the guiding principles of the foundations of our nation: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’”
Leo did not say these things about the United States because he spent a lot of time in Chicago—so did Al Capone, and Barack Obama for that matter—but because the founding principles of the U.S. are identical to those motivating the Pope’s demand for justice for all immigrants today, and his emphatic affirmation in Spain that “The desire for goodness, beauty and truth is rooted in the very DNA of humanity. It is on the basis of this profoundly human aspiration and our centuries-old experience that the Church proposes paths toward a life of dignity and the common good.”
Although many of our jaded fellow citizens today would scoff at the idea, the United States was founded to do Good. Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, one of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence that Pope Leo quoted to the Villanova grads, was a protegé of Cotton Mather, who wrote in his 1710 Essays to Do Good:
“It is an invaluable honor, to do good; it is an incomparable pleasure. A man must look upon himself as dignified and gratified by God, when an opportunity to do good is put into his hands. He must embrace it with rapture, as enabling him to answer the great End of his being.”
The philosophical bedrock for our entrusted mission of “the pursuit of happiness” for all men, was provided by the German philosopher Gottfried Leibniz. In a 1694 essay On Wisdom, Leibniz wrote https://t.co/r3Oe6arDUJ :
“Nothing serves happiness more than the illumination of the mind and the exercise of the Will to act at all times according to Reason… [This] can give new light to those who have the same common purpose of helping each other in the search for Truth, the Knowledge of Nature, the augmentation of human powers and the promotion of the common good.”
Leibniz elaborated on the meaning of the lives of those so dedicated:
“They can do as much for their happiness, as if they had a thousand hands and a thousand lives; yes, as if they lived a thousand times as long as they do. For so much is our life to be valued as a true life, as one does good in it. Who now does much good in a short time is equal to him who lives a thousand times longer; this occurs with those who can cause thousands and thousands of hands to work with them, through which in few years more Good can happen to their highest glory and enjoyment, than many hundreds of years could otherwise bring.”

What has dissolved such standoffs before was not exhortation but interest: the INF Treaty was achieved when both sides concluded that survival, and the prosperity that requires it, was worth more than positioning. What must be achieved is to recreate that calculation: an economic order in which Europe, Russia, and America gain more from each other’s development than from each other’s defeat. In a meeting today in the Canary Islands, a Spanish province off the coast of Africa, with migrants and people who aid migrants, Pope Leo XIV called for humanity to face up to its moral responsibility to create a world in which all people, in all nations, can live, work, raise their families and fulfill their dreams in safety. Asserting that there is a “right not to have to migrate,” he asked the fundamental question which begs the urgency of establishing a new international security and development architecture: “What kind of world have we built, if so many brothers and sisters must risk death to seek life?”
The meeting took place on the docks of the Arguineguín port on the island of Gran Canaria, known today as the “Port of Shame”, because some 2,600 Africans who arrived on rickety wooden boats in a few days during the 2020 COVID pandemic were left to live in the open, packed onto the port’s concrete pier, for three months. Before the Pope spoke, testimony had been given by four migrants and aid workers, including a Maritime Rescue captain who has helped save more than 20,000 people from drowning at sea, so far.
The Pope responded:
“From this island, I hope that the voices of those who have spoken today will reach those who hold positions of decisive responsibility—civil authorities, parliaments, governments, and international organizations—as well as Christian communities, other religious traditions, and all men and women of good will. It is not enough to manage arrivals, distribute numbers, reinforce borders, or lament deaths after they have already occurred.
“Every boat that arrives does not bring only migrants; it brings with it a question: What kind of world have we built, if so many of our brothers and sisters must risk death in search of life?
“While there is a right to seek refuge when one’s life is threatened, there is also a right not to have to migrate: the right to remain in one’s own home without hunger, without war, without persecution, without violence, without the land becoming uninhabitable, without corruption stealing the bread from the poor, without weapons destroying children’s futures.
“We cannot grow accustomed to counting the dead. Human dignity has no passport and does not lose its value when crossing a border.”
In the course of his remarks, the Pope addressed the migrants directly, bowing his head, “to your dignity,” he said. “You are not just numbers or files. You are people who have left behind families and homes. You have dreams that no one has the right to despise.”
So he appealed “to the conscience of Europe, which cannot claim to uphold human dignity while growing accustomed to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic becoming unmarked graves, as well as that of the international community, which is called to effective and persevering cooperation.”

China believes People Need To Eat to Stay Alive. Without Food, there Could Be No Life [Not rocket science, contrary to what some geniuses in Washington seem to believe].
Yet China historically had limited arable land (hence centuries after centuries we see the use of terraced rice fields to increase the surface area of plantable soil on mountain slopes in all the lovely tourist pictures we still see today).
Arable land to scale began as a dream. The dream was to turn desert sands into arable land. Today, the dream came true. Not the result of a miracle like an old man with a staff diving the sea, but science and technology made a dream come true - the fruits of 7 decades toil, tears and sweat + the help of SCIENCE.
Btw, must be another thing "*stolen*" from America, one would think according to folks like Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton and sundry other ignoramuses in Washington. And various China-Experts from Ivy academia who pridefully announce they obtain the totality of their so-called knowledge about China from books written by folks who obtain the totality of their so-called knowledge from books written by so on and so forth. Birds of the same feathers who now trade feathers to make fluffy stuff in the Age of Hard and Soft Innovation spearheaded by 🇨🇳.
