AI can write a sermon. But can it shepherd a soul?

Churches are having an important conversation about artificial intelligence, and it's no longer just about what AI can do, but what it should do.

Technology can be a helpful tool for research, brainstorming, and organization. But the work of shepherding people, faithfully handling Scripture, and making disciples has always required something AI can't replicate: wisdom, prayer, presence, and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The question isn't whether the Church should use AI. The question is where we draw the line.

As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, it's worth pausing to remember that the story of America didn't begin with muskets and declarations. It began with men and women who crossed an ocean carrying a gospel conviction. The Puritans weren't perfect, but they were a people shaped by Scripture, wrestling with sin and grace, and building communities around the truths Tim Haupt unpacks in this message. Before we celebrate the founding of this land, it's worth remembering who helped lay its spiritual foundation. The average American watches nearly 4 hours of TV every day—more than 1,300 hours every year. That's over 56 full days spent consuming content, much of which has little lasting value. Pew Research reports that streaming has become a regular part of life for most Americans, with 83% of adults using streaming services. Entertainment consumption is at an all-time high.

There's nothing inherently wrong with watching TV, but as Christians we should ask: Is what we're watching helping us grow in Christ? Is it renewing our minds and drawing us closer to God, or simply filling our time with distractions? Instead of spending hours on content that doesn't sanctify the mind or advance God's kingdom, consider investing that time in something that does.
