Building a Digital Future: Strengthening Collaboration on Talent and Technology
Today, together with Kenya’s Ambassador in China, H.E. Willy Bett, and my team, I held a productive meeting with @Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa President, Hover Gao. He was accompanied by Cheng Chang, President of Huawei Computing Marketing & Solution Sales Department, and others, where we delved into the heart of Kenya's digital transformation journey. Our discussion was centered on a shared vision: unlocking the vast potential of Kenyan youth and enterprises in the global digital economy.
We explored the critical need to future-proof our talent pool and agreed on a strategic path forward to enhance and expand our training programs in key areas of the future:
✅ Digital Economy
✅ Artificial Intelligence (AI)
✅ Emerging Technologies
The focus is clear: to equip the next generation of Kenyan innovators with the skills needed not just to participate, but to lead in the intelligent economy. By aligning our efforts, we can create a powerful pipeline of talent ready for local and global opportunities, driving sustainable growth and innovation within Kenya.
Kenya’s potential in the digital economy, including the software development ecosystem, is evident to our global partners, and we look forward to growing software and AI development centers in Kenya.

Driving Digital Transformation through Global Standards
The GS1 Middle East and Africa (MEMA) Regional Forum provides a timely platform to reflect on how the region can integrate AI with global standards to strengthen supply chains, trade, and governance. For Kenya, this aligns closely with our ongoing strides in digital transformation — from the National AI Strategy 2025–2030, to the rollout of the Digital Superhighway, expansion of public Wi-Fi and digital hubs, and partnerships such as between Konza Technopolis + GS1 that position the country as a hub for AI-enabled innovation.
At the forum, Mr. Emmanuel Kimeu Kimeu Kata, Secretary for ICT, Cyber Security, and Audit Control, delivered a keynote on my behalf, emphasizing that AI, standards, and infrastructure must go hand in hand if we are to unlock regional prosperity.
It was encouraging to see how GS1 is driving global identification and data exchange standards that power trade, health, logistics, and governance. Their presence at Konza Technopolis reflects our shared commitment to building trusted digital infrastructure, enabling real-time product traceability, secure data exchange, and AI-driven solutions that will transform industries and benefit consumers.
The event was graced by Mr. Renaud de Barbuat, CEO of GS1 Global, alongside GS1 Kenya CEO Peter otieno , CEOs from across the MEMA region, and other distinguished industry leaders — reflecting the strength of partnership and commitment driving this agenda forward.
I commend GS1 Kenya and our MEMA partners for convening this vital dialogue and look forward to deeper collaboration in building a connected region powered by innovation, standards, and inclusion.

Great move for Kenyan creators! The government's efforts in negotiating monetization with platforms like @tiktok are paying off, allowing creators to earn significantly. This partnership with @aleph and @WowziTheWorld will further integrate local businesses into TikTok's advertising, boosting the digital economy and providing more career opportunities in content creation.
Big Data Specialists, AI Experts, Renewable Energy Engineers, and Nursing Professionals are among the roles set to soar by 2030! According to the Future of Jobs Report 2025 @wef, the job market is changing, and Kenya is preparing for these shifts.
Tech roles like AI, Cybersecurity, and Software Developers will be in high demand, while jobs in the green economy like Renewable Energy Engineers will also grow. Healthcare and education roles, such as nursing professionals and teachers, will see significant demand, too.
