@RepublicStaff This one needs community
Notes - anyone? It does not belong to the state. It channels money, admittedly through an intermediary process, to the Monarch.
@wheezychilli@ShalamarCa46870 Have at look at this:

Section 10. If you want to be fussy - you can say ‘it isn’t’ - but it’s just quickly routed out of the Crown Estate, into a fund, then to the monarch. section 10
@wheezychilli@ShalamarCa46870 Yes - you’re agreeing with me. The Crown estate say it’s untested. So if we abolish the monarchy, it is possible we will all
Be a lot lot worse off; IF the Crown estate is deemed by the courts to belong to whomsoever is monarch at a time of dissolution
@wheezychilli@ShalamarCa46870 ‘Isn’t used to pay the sovereign grant’ - that’s just a nicety, for all practical purposes - it is:
‘The Crown Estate makes payments each year to the Consolidated Fund and HM Treasury pays the Sovereign Grant to the Monarch.’
@wheezychilli@ShalamarCa46870 Why would the government get them, they’re not the Crown estate. Read the Crown Estate website, they should know! They say the subject of ownership is untested, meaning the courts would decide. Again, be honest, removing the monarch could cost £Bns annually
@Lowkey0nline It is, undoubtedly upsetting to see somebody being kicked in the head. However, some may find reassurance in the knowledge that if you hospitalise the first-line police in an airport, that the second-line might be extremely firm, even aggressive.
@RepublicStaff It’s far from simple. The crown Estate pays for the Royals, and delivers a massive surplus to the Government. Be wary of groups like Republic - what they don’t tell you is that Crown estate ownership is undetermined. If a deposed king gets it - then the cost to us will be immense
@CarrollJackie99 We have been in deficit each year (spent more than we earn) therefore there has been no austerity whatsoever. We cannot spend what we don’t have
@Roberts_Mark_ …because nobody knows who owns the Crown Estate, and if you abolish the monarchy and then the courts decide the royals own it, the country will loose billions of pounds and the royals will gain it. Abolish Monarchy could = take money from everyone and give to monarchy
@BeckettUnite Worth checking the context.
If you’re going to beat four police officer up, bear in mind that the firearms officers following will use all means to stop their weapons being grabbed. A lesson for us all (except those of us who aren’t scum)
